A word from Brian...
Yes, the Canadian political situation is uncertain and the economy is a concern. One thing for sure is - that staying active is important to all of us. Getting out there into the outdoors is a perfect way to enjoy the wonders of nature and stay healthy in body and soul.
Through the upcoming season, I hope you enjoy friends and family and make sure you get out paddling, hiking, walking, skiing or simply mess around in the outdoors.
My recent radio ads say, "there is no such thing as bad weather, if you have great clothing" . Yes, Ocean River is here to help you get that great gear to make you comfortable when you are "out there." Seasons greeting and I hope to see you sometime in the store.

 Donate Warmth

The cold weather is upon us and this year Ocean River Sports is supporting the Salvation Army and the Extreme Weather Protocol by collecting equipment to be used in emergency shelters during severe winter conditions.
Bring your clean, gently used sleeping bags (yes, blankets are okay too), self inflating mats (no foam please - they can't be cleaned) and camp pillows (they're easy to clean!) to the donation box at Ocean River Sports.
For your kindness, each person, who donates, will receive a $10 Bri Bucks Coupon which you can use to upgrade your gear or buy Christmas presents!

Save the Waves Local Tidal Rapids Need Protection
|
Surge Narrows and Okisollo tidal rapids are perfect locations for serious kayak training and high-adrenaline recreation.
There are new applications for tidal power production around most of Quadra Island. These applications are part of a recent gold rush of private claims staked for potentially profitable energy sites all over BC. Labeled "Green" some power projects may balance-out as benign, but others come with harsh environmental and social consequences.
If these applications are approved it will be difficult to stop industrial development in the Okisollo Channel.
If you believe this area should remain wild, please voice your opinion now!

 More Customer Kudos

I am Vancouverite who has been impressed by your store and its customer service from the start. I found out about your Gear Grab Sale in September via your newsletter and made a special trip over to the island.
One of the great deals I came home with was an Icebreaker Merino sportshirt. When I found that it had a small hole, I emailed back (to this generic newsletter address) to ask what I could do about this.
In less than a day, I had a reply from Tim Houlihan, Ocean River shipper, with an apology (WOW!) and a pre-arranged Icebreaker contact person in Vancouver, Marie- Paule Berthiaume, with whom I could arrange to mail or drop off the shirt for exchange. Marie Paul was able to relocate another shirt for me and had it shipped over for pickup within a week.
I am now an even more satisfied customer of Ocean River and Icebreaker, knowing that if anything goes wrong, they will back up their warranty. You're still my favourite paddlingstore!
Thanks Tim and Marie-Paule!
