A word from Brian...
Welcome to another exciting month at Ocean River. I have enjoyed being very involved in the day to day operations of the store this summer. Working the floor is always fun for me. It continues to amaze me what great customers we have. My business degree - a MBWA (management by walking around) - helps to keep it all that much more interesting.
We strive to excel in customer service and this year, although it is impossible to be 100% all of the time, my great staff have been amazing with their loyalty and attention to customer's needs. Thank you, all of you, our customers for a great summer season.
"Getting Out There" as it gets a bit cooler and wetter is more challenging, but the rewards are great - wonderful bird life at this time of year and no crowds. Come on in and see us if you want some great gear or clothing to keep you comfortable in the woods or on the water.
Check out the rest of the newsletter for new products, and events at Ocean River and in the great outdoors.
Cheers, Brian |

Leave No Child
Indoors |
Ocean River is pleased to announce a formal partnership with The Boys and Girls Club in order to support their efforts to "get kids into the outdoors".
Our winter speaker series will raise funds for this great cause. With childhood obesity at an all time high and so many indoor activities available to kids, they are not as likely to be active and get into the outdoors.Children who are exposed to the outdoors, are more creative, more confident and more likely to be problem solvers than those who do not venture into the outdoors. Kids who get into the outdoors will also be more aware of environmental issues and likely to become stewards of our environment.
We will be supporting a number of initiatives to get kids outdoors. If you are in need, please feel free to contact us for information on how to "get out there".

Around the Island in 18 Days
|
|
Sean Morley, well known kayak racer and holder of a 2004 circumnavigation of the UK including Ireland in 184 days as well as many other amazing kayaking feats, is circumnavigating Vancouver Island. His goal is to complete the journey in a counter clockwise direction in 18 days. Sean started at Port Hardy, on Sept 24th, in order to take on the rugged west coast first in the hope that he would have the wind and waves behind him. It's has been a tough stretch for him so far - seas have been rough and some storms have come in since he started the trip.
On Sunday evening, Oct. 5th, Sean passed Victoria and started up the inside Georgia Straights. He is about half way around the Island now, so we wish him good luck with the seas and wind. Sean is paddling Valley Kayak's Nordkapp LV.
