Derek Hutchinson, "the father of modern day sea kayaking", author and BCU level 5 Instructor, will be telling his famous North Sea Crossing at Ocean River Sports 7-9pm
 This is a talk that will have you captivated, and rolling in your seats with laughter, as this true and talented story teller weaves his tale. Donations will go to Boys and Girls Club - to get kids into the outdoors.
Don't miss it!
Derek will also be teaching kayaking on Wednesday Sept 24th and Thursday Sept 25th in the evenings from 5 - 7:30pm. A great opportunity to learn from the master.

With our Surf and Surge Course!
We'll teach you how to launch and land safely at a surf beach and how to brace in surf to prevent a capsize. You will also learn techniques to, safely and confidently, handle rock gardens and surge channels.
 This course is a must for anyone planning on paddling the open coast or for anyone interested in improving their overall kayaking skills.

Standing on a surf board and paddling it with a long canoe paddle may seem a at bid odd at first, however, there is one thing we notice - everyone who does it has a smile on their face!
 This fast growing sport is catching on for a few reasons. It is actually quite easy to start to do if you have a fairly stable board. The feeling like you are standing on water is almost exhilarating and moving over the surface of the water is even better. Once you get your balance and comfort, you can take on a few waves and even more fun is when you can catch a wave and surf a bit.
Another huge benefit is how good a core workout you get while out there having fun.

Our Buying Trip to the Outdoor Retailer Show

Well, our trip was a big success!
Show attendance was down by approximately 10%, mainly due to a slower U.S. economy. I was braced for higher prices ,as I expressed in the last newsletter. But to my surprise, things are fiercely competitive and prices stayed much the same, which is good news for consumers with great value being offered again in '09.
We have some really fun things for Christmas as well as some new lines for Ocean River in the spring and summer '09. We shop the world to find the best stuff to keep Ocean River interesting for you.
