A word from Brian...
The paddlefest, of June 15th, was a great success. I wish to thank the folks at MEC for coordinating this great event. The weather was amazing, being about the first good weather we had all spring - everyone who came, seemed to have a good time and Ocean River Sports was there in force to meet customers. Thanks to everyone who came by our booth. It was a great event and we plan to be there again next year.
 Thank you MEC. Brian Henry

Compass Rose Designs This little basement company is definitely local. Rosemary Henry, who many of you may know, has been building paddle bags, paddle covers and canoe and kayak covers for 3 years now.
Rosemary puts special little touches such as Hawaiian designs, dragon patterns, or native designs onto her bags. She is fussy about her quality as she strives to give good value to her customers. With Rosemary building the bags and being her own distributor, the prices are very reasonable for these unique products.
Ocean River is proud to have this family business in our store.
Check out compassrosedesigns.com or come into the store to get a bag to protect your precious kayak, outrigger, dragon boat paddle or even your boat! |

Good bye to Alex Wellington |
|
For those of you who met our happy Swede, he is going to be going back home at the end of July. He has been a pleasure to work with over the past 6 months.
Although we wish him well, we secretly hope that his plans will go wrong and he will be stranded in Canada and continue to work for Ocean River. His enthusiasm for the outdoors, and for paddling, is contagious and he will be missed by all of us.
Thanks for being with us Alex and good luck in your schooling back in Sweden. |
| A Weekend of Outrigger and Kayak Racing |
|
Ocean River Paddling Club hosted the 10th annual Island Iron Outrigger race on Saturday June 14th. There were 23 -- 6 person racing teams on the day. The race went from Cadboro Bay, south toward Oak Bay Marina, through Mary Todd and out and around the Chain Islands, through Plumper Passage and around the back of Discovery and Chatham Islands and back through Baynes Channel to finish in Cadboro Bay. The 17km race had fairly flat seas this year and ideal weather conditions.
This race is considered one of the premier outrigger races on our coast and congratulations to Julie Kippen who took on the coordination of this successful race.
A small boat race, Trial by Water was run on the Sunday, June 15th, starting from Gonzales Bay , out and around Trial Island and back. This is always a great small boat race for outriggers, surf skis . Thanks so much Lauren Telford for running this great race. Oak bay and Victoria Coast Guard Auxiliary are always amazing support to us with these races as well as all of the volunteers who donated time, and their boats to ensure the safety of our events. Good work to everyone. View Results Here |
