A Word From Brian
Hello to everyone,
Last week, my mother passed away and I want to thank her for everything. She helped to start Ocean River Sports with her support and trust in me. In the beginning, she loaned me $20,000 that helped to buy inventory when the bank did not consider me viable. For 26 years she never called that loan because it kept her in touch and involved with Ocean River Sports. She was always proud to say she was part of Ocean River. We will miss her. Thanks Mum. On a very happy note, Peter Erickson, our buyer is the proud father of a 6 lb 9 oz baby girl,Sonja.
With spring on the way, Ocean River is in constant change to make sure we are alive and exciting. Come on in and see how the store is improving and what new products we have.
We'd love to hear about your adventures and talk about the outdoors. We're always here to help you get out there with advice and the right stuff.
Cheers, Brian Henry |

A New Way to Look at Double Kayaks
|
|
Double kayaks used to all be big, heavy and expensive, so the decision to buy one was often a difficult one.
Things have changed! We now have some great options that are smaller, lighter and well priced. These boats are often better day trippers, though the storage is not as great. They are definitely easier to handle and easier on the pocket book.
The Delta 20T is a full sized thermoformed tandem kayak that tips the scale at 82 lbs. This boat is fast, fun and will take you to distant places with enough space to carry your camping year all at $3500 - the price of many single composite kayaks. A new generation double from Delta. How tough are their hulls? Click here to see
The Current Designs Double Vision is only 60 lbs and is under 17' long. Stable, seaworthy and packed with all of the features of a full touring kayak, this boat is best for day and light touring. Although you could comfortably carry gear for an overnight or weekend, it is best for those who wish the light weight and ease of use. The price is also a good thing at $2995.
Don't forget the recreational double kayak that is designed for stability and ease of use - The Native Ultimate 14.5. It has a unique double hull shape and an open cockpit, but with the option to skirt the boat easily. Fishing, bird watching and photography is what these boats are designed for. At 71 lbs for the tandem version, it can be converted to a solo by removing one seat.
The Necky Manitou II, polyethylene double, is a great small, inexpensive double kayak. The stern cockpit is large and roomy where the forward cockpit is of average size- a comfortable fit for even a child.
Double kayaks can allow a couple to travel more easily together. Two people powering a double are faster than if they were in singles and it allows you to share the experience more easily with others.
Come down and try this new breed of boat! |
