In observance of Independence Day, the CUAOk office will be closed on Friday, July 3 and will re-open on Monday, July 6, 2009.  
 
Save the Date for the Oklahoma/Missouri Credit Union Convention & Expo in Branson
"Credit Unions Make the Difference" at the 2009 Convention & Exposition!  Oklahoma and Missouri credit union professionals and volunteers will experience top-notch speakers, dynamic educational sessions, and opportunities to network at this unique learning event. The Convention & Exposition focuses on the emerging needs of credit union staff, management and boards. The location of the Chateau on the Lake in Branson, Missouri offers a wide variety of entertainment options and spectacular scenery at every turn. 
 
The Convention & Exposition takes place September 22-24.  Early registration is $449 for participants and $249 for guests. Prices increase to $549 and $299 on August 21. 
 
Optional activities include spectacular Branson shows, a golf scramble on the beautiful LedgeStone Championship Golf Course to support credit union political action, and a concert fundraiser featuring Lee Greenwood ("God Bless the USA") and the Bellamy Brothers to benefit severely injured veterans through Homes for Our Troops.

Enjoy Sales on Printed Modules Through the End of July

The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) is assisting credit unions participating in their training certification programs by offering a wide selection of printed courses for reduced prices as part of their ongoing sale.  From now through July 31, all CUAOk member credit unions will be able to save on CUNA's print-based courses for STAR, MERIT, RegTraC, CEP and VAP. 
 
Readers are asked to watch for brochures and e-mails from CUNA providing additional details and content regarding the sale.  By visiting http://training.cuna.org/certsale/index.html, users will then be presented with a full listing of over 100 unique courses that are currently applied to the sale prices.  Credit unions can expand their training libraries by taking advantage of these incredible deals that include reduced educational investments at the following rates:
  • STAR - $40;

Don't Be Late - SCMS Graduation Ceremony Details Available
Three years of dedicated time and effort will pay off for countless years to come when participants in the Southwest CUNA Management School (SCMS) graduate this July 22. As they continue on in the credit union career, they bring knowledge and experiences they have gained from the school back to their credit unions.  Running from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth, the 37th SCMS Graduation Reception, Dinner & Ceremony will honor graduating students and provide some inspirational words in the form of a special commencement address.

CUAOk to Host Financial Literacy Council Workshop
The Oklahoma CU Financial Literacy Council is committed to improving the financial literacy of all Oklahomans, and helping individuals understand the importance of managing their finances responsibly.
 
Credit unions interested in promoting financial literacy in their communities need to pencil-in the July 28 Financial Literacy Workshop on their calendars. Attendees can use information learned at the workshop to introduce financial literacy concepts to high school students, and contribute to the efforts to improve financial literacy statewide. ICUNet Meeting Set for July 9
The ICUNet will host a roundtable discussion from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the Stroud Conference Center, located at 218 W Main Street in Stroud, Okla.  Topics to be discussed include International ACH Transactions, loan issues, Red Flag ID Theft Program/Policies and strategic planning. All are welcome to attend the meeting.
 
Dealing With and Understanding Bankruptcy: Topic for Next Lending Council Meeting
Individuals wanting to learn more about the bankruptcy process need to register for the July 14 Lending Council meeting, to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the David Temple room at TTCU.  TTCU is located at 3720 E 31st Street in Tulsa, Okla.
 
The meeting will begin with a PowerPoint by John D. Dale, attorney at law, followed by lunch and will close with a question and answer session. Key questions to be anwered include:
  • What is the impact of the new cram down rules?
  • There was a lull in activity shortly after the recent legislation, but it picked up in the last 18 months. What changed?
  • How can credit unions better address the Indian title issue?

Save-the-Date: CFO Council Meeting
The next CFO Council Meeting will be held Wednesday, July 29, at the Stroud Conference Center.  In the morning session, Council members will gain valuable information through Roundtable Discussions on various current topics.  Steve Gregg from CUNA Mutual will present information about Credit Union Fraud Issues after lunch.  Watch for meeting registration information coming soon.

Dancing for a Miracle
The 2009 Dancing for a Miracle Gala event, sponsored by Children's Miracle Network, will be held at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City on Saturday, July 18 at 6 p.m. Local guest celebrity's will be competing for the title of "Children's Miracle Network Dancing for Kids Star."  Local celebrities include: Andre Burns, OKC Yard Dawgz Football Player; Shawn Carey, Magic 104.1 Radio Personality; Scott Hines, KFOR Channel 4 Reporter; Kristin Killion, Miss Oklahoma Rodeo 2008; Rob Stanley, David Stanley Chevrolet, and the defending 2008 "CMN Dancing for Kids Star" Mindy Stitt, OERB Executive Director.  Seating is limited, so please make your reservations today.

Hit the Fairways for July's SCMS Scholarship Golf Classic
The Golf Club at Fossil Creek in Fort Worth will soon have its greens lined with fundraisers looking for entertainment and the chance to fuel the education of tomorrow's credit union leaders as the Southwest CUNA Management School (SCMS) tees off with its 21st Annual Scholarship Golf Classic on July 23.  Attendees and players to this charitable event hosted by the SCMS Alumni Association (SCMSAA) will have the chance to raise scholarship money to provide for future SCMS students as they hit the links and go beyond par for the course. Feldstein to Speak at Southwest Corporate's
32nd Annual Economic Forum 
Martin Feldstein, one of the nation's most respected economists, will be among those providing insight, analysis and forecasting to credit union leaders at Southwest Corporate Federal Credit Union's 32nd Economic Forum.  
 
Tiff OCUL logoFeldstein, a Harvard economics professor and President Emeritus of the National Bureau of Economic Research, is regarded by some as the architect of economic boom of the Ronald Reagan era. He served as Reagan's chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and has rarely been off the national stage since then. President Obama tapped Feldstein earlier this year to serve on his administration's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
