Governmental Affairs
Advocacy In Action at the State GAC
Week In Review At such a critical time in the financial industry, Oklahoma credit unions gathered together in our state's capitol to make their voices heard. |
The Legislative Reception held last Monday night allowed our state legislators to visit with credit union attendees about the latest legislation and regulation that affects credit unions and their ability to serve their members. [Event pictures may be viewed on the League Web site by clicking here.]
Tuesday kicked off with the annual OCUPAC annual meeting followed by a line-up of speakers which included Mick Thompson, state banking commissioner; Representative Chris Benge, speaker of the house; Senator Glen Coffee, president pro tempore; and Chris Johnson, CUNA VP of governmental affairs. Attendees were then off for visits to the State Capitol, where attendees met with their members of Congress and staff to discuss the movement's legislative agenda, and the construction site for Oklahoma's Credit Union House.
Your League staff would like to thank those credit unions that attended and strongly urge all credit unions to turn out for this event next year. Your Voice Matters! |

Call For Annual Award Entries
The Oklahoma Credit Union League and CUNA & Affiliates are pleased to sponsor two recognition programs for credit unions: the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program and the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action. Both programs identify credit unions that demonstrate the credit union "People-Helping-People" philosophy. The Dora Maxwell Award program honors the work of credit unions in the community, and the Louise Herring Award program recognizes the practical application of credit union philosophy in daily internal operations. When you enter the Dora Maxwell competition, your credit union will compete with others in the same asset category. Individual chapters involved in community activities are eligible to enter the chapter category. Entrants in the Louise Herring competition will also compete with credit unions in the same asset category. There is no chapter category for the Louise Herring program. State winners in both programs will advance to national competition for judging. All state entries must be submitted to the League office by April 8, 2009. ATTN: AMBER VANDERSLICE, at 2532 E 71st Street, Tulsa, OK 74136. In addition to the national awards program, your League is also calling for nominations in the areas of Distinguished Service Award for Professionals & Volunteers, the Troy Higgins Political Activist of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award. If you need additional information, please contact Amber at the League via email: avanderslice@okleague.coop. |

OCUL to Host Strategic Planning Workshop
for Small and Economically Challenged Credit Unions
"Those who fail to plan-plan to fail."
Our credit union industry is feeling the pressure from competitive, economic and regulatory fronts. In order to survive and continue providing outstanding service to member-owners, credit unions must keep their financial senses keen on the mission, objectives and strategies of their organization as well as the many external forces threatening their existence. For those reasons, the OCUL is hosting a pilot Strategic Planning Workshop for Small Credit Unions, scheduled for April 23 and 24 at the Cimarron Hotel and Suites in Stillwater, Okla. The workshop uses a flexible format that can be tailored to each credit union's unique planning needs. In just 24 hours participants will walk away with a plan that will allow the credit union to take control of its destiny.
