Webinar Reviews Corporate Stabilization Program

As most of you know by now, the world-wide economic crisis has come home to roost in the U.S. credit union world. Since the Jan. 28 NCUA announcement, we have been learning about the stabilization plans being worked out for the Corporate CU system by NCUA. In a highly over-simplified portrayal, the accounting profession is trying to establish the eventual value of mortgage-backed securities owned by US Central and several other large Corporate CUs in order to 'close the books' appropriately on 2008. Having done that for US Central, NCUA has determined that it needs to provide USC a capital infusion of $1 billion and guaranty the deposits of the entire Corporate CU system.

To that end, your League would like to invite all affiliated credit unions to register on-line for the 2 p.m. ET (1 PM CENTRAL), Wednesday, Feb. 4, Webinar Dan Mica is hosting on the NCUA "Corporate Stabilization Program." This 90-minute event will feature CUNA and CU experts on regulation, law, accounting and other areas.

This event will include an overview of NCUA's program, CUNA's view of its impact on credit unions - and our ideas for mitigating the costs on credit unions.

Please Note: This webinar will also be archived for use by those who cannot make the Feb. 4 date and time. The webinar will also be shown at the Stroud Conference Center for those attending the Compliance Council meeting and anyone else in the neighborhood!

Education and Training
Training Opportunities for Volunteers
To keep up with the rapidly changing financial environment, more and more credit unions are requiring continuing education for their volunteers.  In fact, CUNA and the League can be your solution to find learning opportunities for both new and experienced volunteers.

In order to expand CUNA's Training on Demand courses, the current Volunteer Achievement Program and the Volunteer Leadership Program will be discontinued.  Volunteers may take tests on completed VLP coursed until Dec. 31, 2009.

New self-study courses added to the VAP include everything from Supervisory Committee's Role in Due Diligence to Bank Secrecy Act for Volunteers.  New Training on Demand titles include Volunteer Self-Evaluations, Communication Strategies for High Performing Volunteers and The Volunteer's Role in Managing Third Party Relationships

Credit union volunteers will also benefit from attending the following events:
  • Credit Union Finance for Non-Financial Managers and Volunteers School, April 26-29, Florida
  • 75th OCUL Annual meeting, May 5-8, Oklahoma City
  • OCUL Fall Leadership Conference, Sept. 22-25, Missouri

Can ABC CU simply convert members still receiving paper statements to e-statements? What if the credit union offers the option to opt-out at any time?
