Project Zip Code: Key to Grassroots Efforts Have You Sent in YOUR Info?
In late December, Oklahoma credit unions should have received the latest Project Zip Code CD from the League. Project Zip Code is a secure CD-ROM program that counts your credit union members and matches them by congressional district, state legislative district and county. These numbers are uploaded to CUNA's Project Zip Code Web site and combined with data from credit unions nationwide. This data is essential to federal and state advocacy efforts. By participating in Project Zip Code and updating the information regularly, our grassroots strength will not be surpassed by any other organization. Already, over 67 million credit union members out of 90 million have been identified! But in order for Project Zip Code to be successful and useful, we need all credit unions to participate and to update their numbers regularly. Project Zip Code is easy to use; just follow the directions in the User Manual, which can be printed off the CD. Feel free to contact DJ Morrow Ingram at the League at ext. 214 or via email at djmorrow@okleague.coop should you have any questions. |

Delight Parents of Pre-schoolers This April
Do you remember when your parents were teaching you about money? You had your own idea about money even before you knew the difference between a dime and a quarter. Don't you think it's time for you to start teaching the future of your credit union about positive money habits?
No, It's never too early to encourage positive attitudes toward money and saving for goals. Here are three ways to help parents teach children as young as two about money:
- To aid parents in explaining spending and saving, CUNA's Thrive by Five™ program is offering free handouts for your credit union.
- Give parents an incentive to open savings accounts for their tots by offering a chance at a $100 prize during the April Savings Challenge. Registration is free and open to all affiliated credit unions. As in past years, CUNA will offer $100 cash prizes to random youth savers at 10 participating credit unions.
- Order quarter saver folders to hand out at your credit union. This will give parents a way to teach their children about setting goals and accomplishing them.
NYIB-Sponsored Scholarships
Don't let the economy get in the way of getting the information you need to provide better financial education to your members and communities: apply for one or more NYIB-sponsored Scholarships. No matter who you are in credit union land, there is a scholarship you may be eligible for. There are six types of scholarships which cover some costs to three educational experiences: the NYIB annual conference, the NCUF's CUDE training and WOCCU's Credit Union Conference.
All scholarships have a deadline of March 31, 2009 and do not take a lot of time to apply for. Get the entire scoop and packets here. |
