2009 Marks the Centennial of Credit Unions
The 100th anniversary of credit unions is being celebrated in a rolling series of events throughout 2009. Credit unions across the United States are celebrating the anniversary by using the anniversary logo in all their communications pieces, placing anniversary ads in their local media and even by offering loans at the same fees their credit union offered the first year they opened. If you would like to know what other credit unions are doing to celebrate the centennial, click here.
Tell Us How You Are Celebrating

InfoSight Helps Put the Compliance Nightmare to Rest
When we talk to credit union CEOs or managers and ask them what keeps them awake at night, nine out of ten will say "regulatory compliance." They don't mention the economy, the housing crisis or anemic growth. Their greatest source of stress is the ongoing nightmare of complying with the ever-changing rules and regulations. Credit union management worries whether new regulations apply to them and how it will affect their credit union. They stress over whether there are new regulations they may not know about and whether their staff is adequately trained. These are the questions that keep them awake at night. In response to the "compliance nightmare," the OCUL is pleased to offer affiliate credit unions, as a dues supported service, InfoSight Online Compliance Center. [View complete article]
Update on Invest in America Program
The last few weeks have certainly been very exciting as we launched first the pilot and then national rollout of the Invest in America program and the auto discounts for credit union members through GM and Chrysler. The media response has been tremendous and the hits on the lovemycreditunion.org Web site approached one million last week alone. All of this press, your efforts and the efforts of credit unions have begun to pay off. Preliminary numbers from GM and Chrysler indicate that over 8,000 members have purchased a new GM or Chrysler vehicle since December 8, 2008.
Project Zip Code: Key to Grassroots Efforts Have You Sent in YOUR Info?
In late December, Oklahoma credit unions should have received the latest Project Zip Code CD from the League. Project Zip Code is a secure CD-ROM program that counts your credit union members and matches them by congressional district, state legislative district and county. These numbers are uploaded to CUNA's Project Zip Code Web site and combined with data from credit unions nationwide. This data is essential to federal and state advocacy efforts. By participating in Project Zip Code and updating the information regularly, our grassroots strength will not be surpassed by any other organization. Already, over 67 million credit union members out of 90 million have been identified! But in order for Project Zip Code to be successful and useful, we need all credit unions to participate and to update their numbers regularly. Project Zip Code is easy to use; just follow the directions in the User Manual, which can be printed off the CD. Feel free to contact DJ Morrow Ingram at the League at ext. 214 or via email at djmorrow@okleague.coop should you have any questions. |
