Vista Copper & Brass Path Lights First to Offer Panoramic Plus Engineered Optics

PanoramicVista's engineering experts have taken illumination efficiency and uniformity to a new level with a revolutionary optical system for the brass and copper path lights.

Called Panoramic Plus, this new high performance optical system goes beyond simply protecting the lamp and creates a measurable difference in the fixture's performance.   Put simply, light is distributed more evenly and across a wider area using the same lamp.

Perfected with advanced Photopia® optical distribution design software, the new optical system incorporates key advances:

  • An innovative wave shaped textured lens that maximizes light transmittance to the farthest reaches of the distribution pattern.
  • 20W performance with only 10W lamp.   Vista Panoramic Plus beats competitors' 20W halogen and Xenon with only 10W.  (download PDF with performance comparison)   Lower watts = more fixtures per cable, longer cable runs, smaller transformer.  Lower installed cost with equal performance.
  • Optically-tuned lens, lamp and reflector interaction to produce maximum throw of light and minimize wasteful internal reflection.
  • A highly reflective and diffusive shade interior that is sealed, virtually eliminating the light depreciation factor (LDF) associated with dirt and debris accumulation.

The Panoramic Plus system delivers an unmatched light distribution with maximum width, outstanding uniformity and minimized loss to reflective inefficiencies.

Effective Uplighting: Tips from the Pros
uplighting

Uplighting is one of the most frequently used techniques in landscape lighting design.  It creates dramatic impact with specimen plant material, architectural features and sculptural objects.

Things to consider when planning uplighting:

  • For large deciduous trees, the fixtures are typically placed at the drip edge of the plant.  In lawn areas, in-ground fixtures are preferred.  Fixtures are typically spaced 7' to 10' apart.
  • To create visual depth in the landscape, objects further from the viewer should use higher wattage lamps.
  • Conifers (pines, spruces, etc.) and other dense plant material like hedges will absorb more light.  A larger number of fixtures (tighten spacing between fixtures) and/or higher wattage lamps may be required to light these objects properly.  Upsizing wattage without changing fixture spacing can create "hot spots".

How's Your Elevator Speech?

An elevator speech is a quick overview of you and your business, delivered in the time it takes to ride in an elevator - typically about 30 seconds to two minutes.

Business marketing experts recommend preparing an elevator speech because it forces you to think about how to present what you offer in a few succinct and powerful sentences.

It sounds easy, but many professionals fail to sell themselves and their companies effectively.  Simply saying "I'm a landscape contractor" leaves the listener to draw on their own impressions and stereotypes.  An effective elevator speech allows you to position yourself effectively as a true professional.

A free web site called Buzzuka allows you to develop and fine tune your speech by answering just a few short questions like:
  • who is your audience?
  • what's their problem?
  • what's different about you?
  • etc.
Check out their process and be better prepared next time someone asks "what do you do".
