O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own.

FMSC meals reach children in Burundi

From the American Midwest to East Africa: once again, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) meals completed a cross-Atlantic journey from the hands of volunteers to the mouths of hungry children.

A representative of Feed the Hungry (FTH), an organization connected to FMSC through mission partner Reach Now International, recently witnessed FMSC meal distribution in Burundi.

These meals offer much-needed hope to children in the East African country where the average person lives on just $90 per year.

"The meals will be used to initiate school lunch programs at several rural schools outside the capital," said Stefan Radelich, FTH's International Director.

During his visit, Radelich was greeted by none other than the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza (pictured above), who offered enthusiastic support to this service to his country's children.

"His Excellency and the First Lady are both people of great faith toward God and love toward the people of Burundi," Radelich said.

2008 meal production goal increases to 70 million

In recent history, Feed My Starving Children's (FMSC) production has leapt from 3.3 million meals in 2001 to 43 million meals in 2007.

Originally, FMSC's staff and Board of Directors set a 2008 goal of 55 million meals. However, on June 26, that number increased to 70 million meals following a unanimous Board vote.

"At a time when slower donations, shipping difficulties, and rising food prices are causing many organizations to retrench," said Executive Director Mark Crea, "we are being blessed and led to feed more children.

"It has been clear each month that we were being led to produce more food, and with God's continued blessings, we will work to produce and ship 70 million meals this year to feed His starving children."

Each of these 70 million meals will cost only 17 cents produce. To cover the cost of any number of meals, click here.

Kids say the darndest things.

One day this spring, 6-year-old Sophia Heegaard brought new meaning to that phrase: She told her mother that she and her best friend Josephine had initiated a school-wide fundraiser for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).

The two kindergartners had given presentations in classrooms around Lake Country Montessori in Minneapolis, informing fellow students about the ways they could contribute to FMSC, an organization neither of them had ever actually visited.

"I didn't even know they were doing this," said Kris Heegaard, Sophia's mother.

The girls' appeals brought in $301.90 for FMSC: enough to produce 1,776 meals. They delivered the funds, in the form of coins and dollar bills, to FMSC's Brooklyn Park, MN, site (see photo, above).

"You two can change the world," said Brian Molohon, FMSC's National Development Director, who led a site tour for the young donors.
