Feed My Starving Children Responds to Food Crisis in Haiti
Skyrocketing global food prices and rising fuel costs have led to chronic food shortages in many developing countries. Among the countries most affected is Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, highlighted lately in international news for an outbreak of food-related riots.
Prior to the riots, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) had planned to send one million meals to Haiti in April. However, in response to the food crisis, FMSC increased last month's Haiti meal count to nearly 1.4 million meals.
In 2007, FMSC donated more than 12 million meals to programs in Haiti, and in 2008, FMSC plans to send 15 million meals to the Caribbean nation.

Like millions of people across the world, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) has been affected by the recent rise in global food and transportation costs.
For the past five years, FMSC held a 15-cent meal cost. However, to compensate for price increases, each FMSC meal now costs 17 cents.
FMSC maintains its commitment to the Biblical call to stewardship, directing 95% of total donations to the feeding program. |
