7th July 2009 Guru Purnima a special day to honour our Gurus who showed us the path of inner light.
Picture above is Dakshinamurti Statue at the Iraivan Temples, Hindu Monastary, Kauai, Hawaii
Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshvaraha,
Gurur Sakshaat Param Brahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha. Dakshinamurthy is an aspect of Lord Shiva as a guru of all type of knowledge, particularly the jnana. He is regarded as the silent Guru, who teaches us through his presence. This aspect of Shiva is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding and knowledge. Shiva as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom, meditation, and Shastras. Although there is a temple of Dakshinamurti in most Shiva temples, the two important ones are Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain and Alangudi near Kumbhakonam. I have visited Alungudi thrice and it is one of the temples dedicated to Jupiter. A great experience to get the blessing of the Guru. Guru Purnima Guru Purnima is celebrated with a Full Moon in Sagittarius annaully. Today I wish you all to receive the blessing of Dakshinamurti and all the gurus who have shown us the path of inner light. Gu means darkness, Ru means Dispel, eliminate. Guru
means the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance. Guru is the
spiritual teacher who shows the aspirant the path to higher knowledge.
He brings light to his disciple by showing them the means to find the
eternal light. Spiritual gurus are seen as a link between the individual and the divine. click here to read more

Iraivan Temple's Navagraha Mandapam
A special pavilion for the nine planets of Hindu astrology at Kauai's Hindu Monastery
The Navagraha Mandapam, or "Nine Planets Pavilion," will
overlook the Wailua River. It will be an open-air building, twenty feet
square with nine carved granite pillars each measuring 7' 4" high.
Along the perimeter is a granite wall where people can sit. In the
middle is a raised rasi chakra platform that is twelve feet square and
three feet high. The rasi chakra has twelve squares in the South Indian
jyotish style, with the zodiac symbols beautifully etched into polished
red granite, all of which has been carved in Bangalore. The bronze
navagraha, or "Nine Planetary Deities" (pictured at right), that will
sit on the rasi chakra have been specially designed with wheels hidden
on the bottom so they can be easily moved into the proper zodiac square
(they weigh over 150 lbs each), according to the planets' true
astronomical positions. Click above to see the pictures of all the statues and the architechural drawings of how this mandapam will look. On the special Guru Purnima day, you can help this project along by sponsoring. It is considered a great remedy to help build a temple.
