Greetings!
We begin September with a special fast Swarna Gauri Vratam and two festivals. The fast undertaken by Gauri (Shiva's wife) for 12 years to get the ascetic Shiva to marry her and it is a fast undertaken by women who wish to get married and get an good husband. Then there is Ganesha's birthday and Shraaddha, the remembering of the Pitris and forefathers.
There are some very good planetary conditions with Jupiter turning direct in Sagitarrius and Mercury in Gemini but I am focusing on the connection between Mars and Venus for this month and the many contacts that they are making in 08 and 09. |

Ganesha Birthday 3 September 08
 Ganesha, the remover of obstacles was born on the fourth tithi of the Shukla paksha in the month of Bhadra. Bhadra month starts with the new Moon in Leo during August/ September. Ganesha is the son of Shiva and Gauri. Ganesha is also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, Vighneshwara etc. Ganapati was born of the four great elements, earth, water, fire and air.  Swarna Gauri Vratam is done by women desiring to get married
on Shukla tritiya tithi when Sun is in Leo in the month of Bhadrapada. Swarna means gold, Gauri is another name for Parvati and Vratam means Fast. Parvati wanted to marry Lord Shiva but Shiva was not able to reciprocate her love as he was mourning the death of his wife Sati.
