Angel Aircraft Shootdown Backfires on Pigeon Shooters!
|
|
DEAR FRIENDS, As an act of revenge for SHARK shutting down the last day of the Broxton Bridge pigeon shoot, a couple of the Plantation's people, hiding the woods, took a bunch of shots at our Angel remote controlled aircraft, hitting it and forcing a hard crash landing, that damaged the machine.
We're sure they all had a good laugh and certainly they're excellent at running away, which they did immediately after we spotted them, but now they are sobbing into their hunting vests as their actions have brought a sun-sized spotlight on their cruelty in the form of massive media attention and our YouTube video which has already surpassed 100,000 views in just four days!!!
The interest in this issue has flushed out a few of the shooters who participated in the Broxton Bridge slaughter, and as promised, we'll soon be exposing their faces and identities to the world.

Aerial drone shot down at killing club

There's a saying that all anger comes from pain. If this is true, then we really hurt the bad guys as they have been sending us abusive emails, outright threats and statements seething with uncontrollable rage of all kinds. Here is a sampling just from the YouTube comments section and emails received:
* personally i woulda just shot you for fun, then fed ya to the pigeons.
* fyi i use a small flamethrower when i kill pigeons. then i stomp the life out of em for fun.
* No sir Shark fucker I'd gladly walk out of the bush and stomp your ass no questions asked! :D
* I suggest a few years of anal sex in prison for you.
* I agree, shooting pigeons is barbaric. Shooting dumbass hippy activists is a much more civilized hobby.
* They should have shoot your asses for bugging them.
* You should be glad, you dumb asses, that you escaped with your life.
* I will kill all the animals I want to. *You need to get a life or eat a bullet.
* I'll shoot your damn drone down if it flys over my property too. Now time to kill some animals just because I can. *Well guess what, we are gathering forces and will be following you in the future, and you can bet you aren't going to bother the pigeon shoot again, we will be there in numbers and your little toy won't make it off the ground.
*If I had been there I would have shot that thing out of the air too. Although, I never would have walked away from you like those guys did. I would have taken your camera away from you as well. At gunpoint if need be...
We ruined their whole shoot!
By shooting down our Angel aircraft, it opened up SHARK's work against animal cruelty to an entirely new audience; the tech world. A number of outlets that deal with drone aircraft and technology covered the issue of pigeon shooting, something they never would have touched before. We will have a listing of some of the media coverage in the next section.
We know that only a fraction of the people Broxton Bridge invited showed (they invited 120, but only about 20 were there). That was most likely due to our forewarning and the real and palpable fear these shooters had of being filmed by our aircraft. So few people participated that it appears they only used some of the birds, and the rest were shipped back to Pennsylvania for a pigeon shoot this weekend at Wing Pointe.

Canon Rodeo Workshop Educated
|
|
This past weekend, camera manufacturer Canon held a workshop at the 2012 Tuscon rodeo where they taught people/photographers/attendees how to take rodeo pictures like a pro. SHARK paid for Gary Vella of Supporting and Promoting Ethics for the Animal Kingdom (SPEAK) to attend. Here is what happened, in Gary's own words:
...on the first day of the rodeo, I went in to the workshop and took a seat in a very centrally located position for optimal public address. I listened/watched the Canon rep's presentation for 15-20 minutes, which included discussion about things such as switching from auto-focus when a rodeo animal is running toward the camera to focus-lock after the animal has been roped and the action is more localized in a condensed area.
After his initial presentation was over, the instructor asked if there were any questions, at which time I held back to let a couple of camera buffs get a couple of questions in. Then it was my turn and I began by asking him: "Since Canon is rubbing elbows with the rodeo, what special equipment and lenses would he suggest to tightly focus on the sneaky guy that administers electrical shocks to each bull and horse just before they leave the chute, slipping the device back into his pocket each time so that the public doesn't realize what's going on?" Then I asked him about which lens he would suggest to focus on the macho guy who traumatizes the calves by raking and bending their tails just before they're released from the chute so they'll run like hell .... a "real man's" job.
I told him that we also want to get close ups of the jerk-down scenario, plus some "still" shots of the occasional dead animals that the public never sees. During this rather one-sided exchange, the Canon rep first attempted to pacify me by explaining that he understood what I was saying but that he wasn't here to discuss that issue.
Ignoring his attempts to sidetrack me, I just continued on with the points I was determined to make. Meanwhile, more than 100 pro-rodeo camera buffs became a captive audience. By the time I reached my final point regarding how many animal protectionists use Canon equipment to document animal abuse, the clock had ticked off 3-4 minutes --- an eternity for those on the other side --- and the Canon rep had thrown up his hands and walked away. At that point, an elderly cowboy a few feet away said "Awww, sit down," at which point I retorted "Sit down!? ... I just stood up because I have something to say." He replied, "I don't want to hear it" and I told him "I don't care." Having said my piece, I then left the workshop.

"Kindness and compassion towards all living beings is a mark of a civilized society. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bullfighting and rodeos are all cut from the same fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have learned to live well ourselves." - Cesar Chavez, civil rights and labor leader, founder of the United Farm Workers
