Tom Stallard to Receive Peter McCuen Award

CAP Chair to be honored at Metro Chamber Event

Tom StallardTom Stallard, chair of the Cleaner Air Partnership, will receive the prestigious "Peter McCuen Award for Civic Entrepreneurship" at the Sacramento Metro Chamber's 116th Annual Dinner and Business Awards on February 4th.

The Peter McCuen Award goes to a businessperson who has become extensively involved in promoting civic and community involvement and who brings their entrepreneurial skills to their public life.  Tom Stallard has done just that.  He is a Woodland attorney whose many business and civic pursuits include founding a legislative research firm, launching a historic building renovation firm called the "Rose Colored Glass Company" and serving eight years on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.

"Peter McCuen was a legend -- a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who made Sacramento his home...an innovator in business and in the community and completely committed to making our region a better place," said Bill Mueller, CEO of Valley Vision and manager of the Cleaner Air Partnership.  "Tom Stallard is every bit Peter's peer -- extremely smart, restless, with a gift for diplomacy and a passion for making an impact.  Given his humility, we won't ever know all of the many ways Tom has helped our region prosper, but you can trust we are all the better for it."

In addition to serving as Chair of the Cleaner Air Partnership, Tom has contributed his skills to a wide variety of public non-profit boards including public television station KVIE, the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce, Valley Vision, the Great Valley Center and he is past president of the UC Davis School of Law Alumni Association.  Tom is also a founding trustee of the California State Library Foundation, a founder and past president of California State Archives, and a founder of the California Museum.

Regional Action Plan includes air quality improvement actions

Mayor Kevin Johnson launched Greenwise Sacramento in 2010 with a goal of creating a shared vision to transform the Sacramento Region into the "Emerald Valley" - the greenest region in the country and a hub for clean technology. Over 275 participants brainstormed strategies and actions during the 8-month initiative and invested over 13,000 hours during Policy Committee and monthly meetings. The region welcomed rock-star speakers including Van Jones, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Thomas Friedman and Alice Waters who inspired and challenged our area to be bold.  Mayor Johnson will reveal the Greenwise Regional Action Plan at the Sacramento Metro Chamber's State of the City event on January 20th.

The Greenwise Regional Action Plan will summarize recommendations from the five working teams: Energy, Waste & Recycling, Water & Nature, Urban Design & Green Building and Green & Clean Technology.  The Plan focuses on three areas - The Region's Economy, Environmental Stewardship, and Community Engagement.  Air Districts and other air pollution fighting organizations participated in the development of the Plan, which will include a strong pollution-reduction goal for 2020.

"With the unveiling of the Plan, we will now get to work to make a difference for every person in our community" said Greenwise Project Manager Julia Burrows. "Improving the air quality by continuing the great work of the air districts in our region and investing in a number of new actions outlined in the Plan will benefit every resident in our air basin now and in the future. We appreciate the support of the Cleaner Air Partnership and the air quality officials who contributed to the plan development, and we look forward to great collaboration in the future."
