| Quarterly Luncheon to Focus on Cap-and-Trade |
|
RSVP now for free luncheon to learn more
Most Californians (54%) have not heard of the cap-and-trade system of setting limits on carbon dioxide emissions, according to findings from a recent statewide survey by the Public Policy Institute of California. Yet this new policy mechanism is due to roll out shortly in the State and the impacts upon business and the way we live still remains unclear.
With the upcoming launch of the cap-and-trade program from the California Air Resources Board, the Cleaner Air Partnership will focus on understanding cap-and-trade and how it will impact air quality in the Sacramento Region at our final Quarterly luncheon of the year.
Date: Friday, December 3, 2010
Time: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Location: Downey Brand
621 Capitol Mall, 18th Floor
Sacramento, CA

Global Climate Change Summit Focuses on Job Creation, UC Davis Leadership |
|
Governor Schwarzenegger kicked off the 2010 Global Climate Change Summit this month by noting that his Summit was held in Los Angles last year - the world's entertainment capitol. This year, the Summit was held at UC Davis, the world's environmental capitol, he said, noting the University's global leadership in environmental research. It was an auspicious start to a two-day conference that brought delegations from more than 40 nations dotting the world to the Sacramento Region to discuss approaches to a lower carbon future that will create jobs and improve the environment.
A signature accomplishment of this year's Summit was the signing of the "R20 Charter," a compact between sub-national governments and agencies. The Charter helps provide government certainty to fast-track actions, including novel new public and private financing mechanisms, to invest in energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean transportation projects.
"California is proof that green job growth is explosive," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "We can take care of the environment and business at the same time." |
| Wood Burning Programs Kick-off This Month |
|
Wood smoke causes adverse health conditions
With the cooler weather and winter months upon us, it's time again to know when to burn. Wood smoke pollution, typically from woodstoves and fireplaces, contains fine particles that can damage lungs, especially in young children and older adults. Kids are particularly vulnerable because their respiratory systems are still developing and they breathe more air per pound of their body weight.
On days when fine particle pollution is forecasted to be high, burn restrictions - voluntary or otherwise - will be communicated by the local air quality management districts. Wood burning restriction programs are necessary both to reduce risks to our health and to meet the federal government's rules for particulate matter.
Please check with your county's program before you light up your fireplace between November 2010 and February 2011.
