Issue: # 17 May/2010
Greetings!

May has proven to be an exciting month thus far. Julia Burrows has joined Valley Vision, and we are delighted to have her expertise in the Green Capital Alliance! She will be a great addition to our team. We are also eager to support the Mayor's Green Initiative, which was introduced this week.

There are some great upcoming events and new organizations rolling out, which we believe is a promising preview for the summer months that lie ahead!

Be well, Kristine

PlacerSustain Launches Sustainability Initiative

PlacerSustain is a collaborative network of individuals and organizations interested in creating a sustainable future in Placer County. With its first Board of Directors meeting held earlier this month, the organization promotes a Sustainability Initiative that includes Healthy Community, Environment, and Economy.  PlacerSustain fosters the exchange of information and serves as a public access point to community sustainability efforts. The organization also hosts open discussion meetings (held the first Tuesday of each month) and maintains an all-access online blog.
Clean Tech Promotion Legislation

In late April, Congresswoman Matsui introduced the Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act (HR 5156). This legislation proposes the creation of a Fund to help boost U.S. clean tech firms at home and abroad. If passed, the legislation will assist with export assistance, create jobs in the U.S., and increase competitiveness of America's clean technology industry in domestic and international marketplaces. The bill has been referred to Committees within the House of Representatives.
Sacramento Green Building Task Force

Sacramento County and City have partnered to launch the Green Building Task Force. Comprised of green building experts and key stakeholders in the region, the Task Force is designed to provide a method and structure to conduct research, gather input and work collaboratively to develop practical and innovative recommendations for our region. Task Force progress will be updated online, with key meetings open to the public.
