Sacramento Region Building Energy Retrofit Summit

New programs in the Sacramento region will dramatically change the marketplace for energy retrofits. From the Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing programs launching in the region to federal and local energy efficiency retrofit initiatives, there have never been more opportunities available to home and business owners. The Green Capital Alliance is hosting a summit on April 6th to bring together leaders and key stakeholders to share information and highlight area resources.

During the first half of summit, panelists from the California Energy Commission, local jurisdictions launching PACE programs, and SMUD's residential retrofit program will share information about upcoming opportunities. An afternoon panel will highlight the workforce development and accreditation/certification resources to help small businesses meet the program requirements for skilled workers. The event will conclude with an opportunity to speak to more than a dozen representatives from local resource agencies.

The event is free, but an RSVP is required to receive lunch and a name badge. Please send your contact information to Suzanne Mayes Linville by March 30th.
2010 Clean Energy Roundtables
The Green Capital Alliance will be convening a third series of Clean Energy CEO Roundtables this spring to gather targeted advice to inform the work plans of GCA's partner organizations. This time around we'll convene eight smaller meetings, each focused on a specific segment of our green economy-ranging from solar installation firms, to energy efficiency technology companies and biomass energy experts.

Last year's input from the 35 participating companies focused on Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) programs, and the desire to see AB 811 implemented locally (read the 2009 report). We're proud that GCA and the region's leaders followed up on thise recommendations with tangible outcomes: the launch of PACE programs spanning Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo Counties. We expect that our conversations in 2010 will similarly gather meaningful advice and generate a new round of follow-up actions. For our clean energy company leaders in the region, expect an invitation to participate in the weeks ahead!

Cool the Earth... Because Every Action Counts

Cool The Earth is a transformational school-based climate change program which educates children and their families about climate change and motivates them to take simple, measurable actions at home to reduce their carbon footprint. The 3-5 month program launches with a school-wide assembly featuring an age-appropriate play, which educates children Cool the Earth logoabout global warming and empowers them to take 20 low or no-cost actions to reduce their energy use at home. The program has already motivated over 44,000 kids and their families to take over 80,000 actions to reduce their carbon emissions, eliminating 60 million pounds of global warming gases from the atmosphere. Foulks Fanch Elementary in Elk Grove is currently offering the program and there are plans to begin the program in other area schools later this spring. Visit the program's website to learn more.
