| GCA's March event to share local clean energy company input |
|
|
Please join us! On March 27th the Green Capital Alliance will host its first big meeting of the year at Sacramento State University. Throughout February we're hosting a series of "roundtable" sessions with leaders from 40 local clean energy companies. We'll ask them to weigh in many important questions, such as:
- Knowing that the economy and political environments have changed recently, what are the big challenges and opportunities facing your companies right now?
- What do you predict your workforce need will be in the next five years, and how can our partners support you in preparing people to fill these positions?
- How can our partners support you with advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels?
The Clean Energy Conversations event in March will be the first time that we compile the outcomes of these sessions. This input will help to guide the work of the GCA and our partners in the year ahead, and we're eager to share what we learn.
The March 27th meeting is being generously hosted by Sac State, and it is free and open to you and your colleagues. Seating is limited, so RSVPs are required by March 20th, 2009: please email Hannah Brosnan. |
| Surveying our 28 Sacramento-area Cities and Counties on "green" activities, solar permitting |
|
| Right now our region's 28 jurisdictions are grappling with how to address AB 32, the state's landmark climate change legislation, and trying to advance their own job creation goals during challenging economic times. We have realized that our region has a unique chance to move forward on each of these objectives in a collaborative, cost-effective way that gives us a competitive advantage when growing and recruiting clean technology companies.
If we can easily share information across jurisdictions that facilitates the process of completing emissions inventories and climate action plans mandated by AB 32, and if our jurisdictions are willing to build consistency in the way that they permit and approve new solar installations, we'd be taking concrete steps that would set our region ahead of other parts of California.
The Green Capital Alliance survey that is currently being completed by City Managers and County Executives across the region is the first step towards making this happen. We're asking each city/county to:
- Share names and contact information for staff members at their jurisdiction responsible for implementing AB 32 and sustainability planning
- Describe where they are in the process of completing an Emissions Inventory and Climate Action Plan
- Provide details on the approval process for residential and commercial solar installations
- Identify issues related to energy planning that they would like to learn more about
We'll be sharing these findings at the next meeting of the SACOG Climate and Air Quality Committee on March 5th. These meetings are open to the public. |
