Issue: # 6 January/2009
Greetings!

Happy New Year! As we look forward to 2009 the economy is on all of our minds. Fortunately, the clean energy technology sector provides an important opportunity for new investment and growth, and our region is poised to push it wide open.

We'll be launching a new series of luncheons with leaders of our local clean tech companies in February, and we're eager to share our learnings with you. Look for a GCA meeting announcement in the next issue of our e-news.

SETA helps region's green job seekers
A bright spot in this time of economic uncertainty is the clean technology work force training programs and partnerships SETA is developing to expand the pool of talented workers who can meet the demand in this area. SETA has created a resume bank logging resumes for all types of employment, from management to solar installer--people who might have skills to do the next generation of clean tech jobs. SETA helps assess workers' abilities and gives guidance about educational opportunities in order to develop their next set of skills.

One of the training partnerships in which SETA is collaborating is Power Pathways, partnering with PG&E and American River College (ARC). ARC is also launching a solar installer program spring semester 2009. This is a one-year certificate program, and SETA is helping them recruit for the program. All four Los Rios Community College campuses are beginning to develop clean technology courses from solar photovoltaic to green drafting and architecture, water system design and more.

Interested employers and job seekers can send resumes or contact Josh Woodson at 916-263-3864 or jwwoodso@delpaso.seta.net. SETA's website, www.seta.net, lists all of their career centers and shows a master calendar of career events, as well as having a full employer services section.

Green award opportunities for local government
One of numerous high points at the 2009 Green California Summit and Exposition will be the 2009 Green Leadership Awards ceremony, which will take place on March 17. These awards were established at the request of the Summit Advisory Board to recognize outstanding environmental achievements by state and local government. The ceremony at the 2009 Green California Summit will highlight and celebrate projects implemented in California during 2008.

Project Awards will be given in each of the following categories: Climate Change, Waste Management, Energy Innovation, Transportation, Green Building, Water Management, Purchasing, and Green Culture.

Let's bring some of these awards home to the Sacramento Region! Apply here by Feb 16th, 2009.
