Marion County Walgreens Hearings moved to June 7 |
|
The Marion County Alcoholic Beverage Board continued a hearing for 18 permits requested by Walgreens. The move came as no surprise as the law firm representing the drug-store chain had notified local hearing officers they would seek a delay for its out-of-state client. A Walgreens attorney cited zoning and tax issues as the reasons for continuances for the drugstore chain. To date, Walgreens has withdrawn at least one permit from consideration at 3734 E. 38th Street due to neighborhood opposition. Neighbors there were mostly concerned with crime and told officials there were enough outlets in their area selling liquor. |

With the end of the school year approaching, students and parents must take action to prevent underage drinking. And, 79 percent indicated the same problem on graduation night. Open discussion is key to keeping our children and our communities safe.
