Drug Free Groups Continue to Protest Walgreens Permits |
|

|
Drug Free organizations in Indiana continue to organize their communities on the flood of Walgreens permits that have come into the state of Indiana.
Local hearings started in January and continue to be scheduled through April and May.
Unfortunately, due to the way the state commission keeps its records and minutes-there is no simply way to determine by reviewing those records if Walgreens permit requests have received final approval.
Here's a recent post from our RAD partner in Tippecanoe County:
"The Drug-Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County feels that there are an adequate number of outlets to support the market in the area. Over-saturation of license and limited controls on how alcohol is sold have been proven to contribute to underage drinking and other alcohol related problems.
The Drug-Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County and national prevention efforts find that when business and communities work together to address issues of alcohol outlet density, sales and distribution practices, that the problems of high risk drinking and underage consumption are greatly reduced."
Tippecanoe County Hearing Information:
DATE: Wednesday, April 14
TIME: 10:00 AM
LOCATION: Tippecanoe County Office Building, 20 North Third Street
LOCAL EXCISE OFFICER: Jeremiah Gillam, 765-447-7066
The following Walgreens locations are seeking permits:
130 SOUTH CREASY LANE, Lafayette IN 47905
2800 OLD US HIGHWAY 231 SOUTH, Lafayette IN 47909
1000 SAGAMORE PARKWAY WEST, West Lafayette IN 47906

If you Know a Firefighter ... |
|
The Kitchen Table blog for firefighters has a reality post and check for our friends in emergency services.
Here's an excerpt:
As we know, firefighters need both mental and physical toughness to weather the beatings that we will take from an incident. We have to take something positive from EVERY incident. There ARE positives even if there is a negative outcome and we have to talk it to that point where we all agree that, had we not been there, the situation would have been worse, regardless of the outcome. Veteran firefighters hold the secrets to their longevity of service. They could be invaluable to the ones who are struggling with the emotional aspects of a call. Veterans could take the broken pieces of someone's spirit and help to put it back together, if only they were asked.

San Diego Teens Help Bust Adults who Buy Booze for Minors |
|
Sheriff's deputies are using a new crime fighting tool to target adults who buy booze for minors: teen decoys. The underage teens are approaching folks headed into retail locations and asking them to buy beer. During the operation, only two people were cited with a misdemeanor of furnishing alcohol to a minor, which can result in a $1,000 fine. However, dozens of adults rejected the requests.
