And a Sign to them is the lifeless earth of winter. We give it life and bring forth from it seeds, so that from it they may eat. Q36:33

Greetings of Peace~ It's the beginning of Spring and the garden is abundant with new life, carpeting the bare earth of winter with it's radiant green glow. We wanted to share some of the beauty and the "baby pictures" of the produce that we are growing for your first Spring share!

Abundant Life in the Solar Seed House
| | The seed shed is full of vibrant young plants, we intend to move out into the garden during the first few days of Spring. Pictured left is a Coppenhagen Market Cabbage. Broccoli, Red Winter Kale, Lacinato Kale, Romaine Lettuce, Eggplant, Celery, Basil, and Leeks are filling the shelves as well! As we transplant the cool weather lovers outside, we are moving tomato and peppers into their warm sunny places to await their journey outside, after the threat of frost has left .
We are deeply enjoying this new addition to the CSA and the expanded room to start this seasons' babies! The plants appear deeply nourished and healthy as well, praise be to the Creator and giver of life. The seeds are germinating extremely well, and unfolding the hidden life within them, reaching for the light. |
From the field
| | The field is full of possibility as well, and the first leaves of many root crops are appearing. We installed a low tunnel to get an early start on roots for your spring shares, beets, carrots, and sweet white turnips, pictured above. We have skinned the frame covering three 80 foot beds to warm up the soil. The first leaves have made their appearance and are doing well in the warm and moist enviroment. As the summer nears and it gets to hot under there, we will have harvested the roots, hopefully you have enjoyed them, and we intend to replace the frame with shade cloth with the intention of planting cooler weather crops through the summer, such as lettuce varieties.
Several beds of lettuce, broccoli raab, chinese cabbage, and spinach have been sown as well, without the cover, as they like it cool.
Hope you enjoyed the update and we are excited to share the harvest of all the seeds that are being sowed, by the mercy and grace of our Creator. |
