Greetings!

I'm back!  What a wonderful vacation I had!  I spent last week in beautiful St. Martin, FWI, in the Caribbean.  It really made me realize how important it is to take a break, relax, and remove yourself from the electronic age at times.  I teach all about relaxation yet I sometimes forget to do this myself.  Now I feel renewed and ready to return!  Give yourself permission to relax too!
Warrior Pose 2 - Virabhadrasana II
Warrior Pose II (Virabhadrasana II)
Warrior Pose 2 (Virabhadrasana II) is a powerful pose.  It helps to strengthen your legs and arms, opens the hips, and improves your balance.

In this pose be especially careful of the front knee - keep it behind or directly above the ankle and point it over the space between the second and third toes.

This pose is the second of a trilogy of poses all of which brings a dynamic force to your breath and body, increasing stamina and concentration.

Click on the picture above and join me in doing this zesty pose that makes you feel you can take on the world!
Mantra
A mantra is a sound or phrase that aids in the concentration of meditation.  It is a Sanskrit term and literally means 'instrument of thought'.  Here you will find a suggested mantra to use during the week.  Just repeat it whenever you need a lift.

I experience life as a joyous dance.

Q:  What invention made it possible for humans to walk through walls?
A:  The door.
Nutrition Prescription - Lemon
Lemon is something that can help every system in the body.  One of the best things you can do to start off your day is to drink a warm mug of water with the juice of half a lemon in it.  It is something that I used to give my patients when they needed to relieve constipation while during their stay in the hospital.  It worked every time!  It is like the Scrubbing Bubbles for the body because they remove the toxins from the intestinal tract (which will lead to clearer skin along with other benefits).

Lemon has many attributes that contribute to the health of your body.  It boosts the immune system due to it's high vitamin C content, they say it will get rid of wrinkles because of that! It is high in potassium too which stimulates brain and nerve function and lowers blood pressure too.

Surprisingly lemons are an alkaline food.  On their own they are acidic but when metabolized in our bodies they become alkaline which contributes to a healthy functioning body.  Those who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster too.

Drinking a warm, lemony drink in the morning will help you to start the day hydrated which will help your adrenal glands, they help to give you energy and regulates stress response. (For more information about water see my first newsletter.)

So start adding lemon to your water anytime of the day and/or drink a fortifying cup of warm lemon water and you'll enjoy the benefits all day long.  Afterwards just throw your lemon in the garbage disposal to give your kitchen sink a wonderful lemony aroma too!

Ponderings - Relaxing Pictures of St. Martin
I find that when I look at relaxing pictures that I relax too!  I also notice that I like to look at pictures rather than read the article to which they are attached.  So here are some relaxing pictures of my week that I hope will bring you to a state of relaxation as much as being there helped me.

You are here.

Sorry for the delay in getting this newsletter out to you this week.  It seems that 'island time' has followed me home.  I'm holding onto this relaxing feeling as long as I can and look forward to sharing it with you in class this week!  See you soon.
Namaste,
Debbie
