Home Foreclosure Legal Aid Project!
The Home Foreclosure Legal Aid Project (HFLAP) is a partnership of the Washington State Bar Association and the Northwest Justice Project. It provides an opportunity for lawyers to provide meaningful and much-needed assistance to homeowners in need. Since HFLAP began accepting clients in June 2009, staff and pro bono attorneys provided assistance with 544 cases which impacted 1091 adults and 612 children. These efforts resulted in more than $12.6 million in property value preserved and more than $1.2 million in equity saved.
Among the many forms of support that HFLAP provides its volunteers are numerous continuing legal education opportunities. Live and webinar training are scheduled frequently, and recordings of these are available on demand. These recordings can be especially valuable, since they can be reviewed long after initial training for a brush-up on fine points, and for sharing with your in-house support staff!
HFLAP is a classic example of the business model of providing free CLE in exchange for pro bono service. Attorneys who sign up aren't obligated to accept a case referral at any particular time, but are highly encouraged to accept at least one case through the program. This is truly a "win-win" for all involved!
