Thursday, July 26th, 51 lucky Boys & Girls Club Members, along with 4 Elk's and 2 Boys & Girls Club Staff, had the chance to visit the Entergy IMAX Theatre and to see The National World War II Museum in New Orleans. This was all thanks to The Opelousas Elks Lodge #1048. The Elks contributed $3400 to fund this historic trip. Many of the children that will be attending would not have otherwise been able to experience something like this. It is always nice to have contributions like this to help add an extra kick to the kids Club experience.
When they left early Thursday morning they were able to enjoy a great breakfast that McDonald's donated. They checked out the Museum first and then the Theatre. They all had a great time and hope that the Elks will be able to do this again next year.

August JCP Cares Partners With Boys & Girls Clubs and 4-H
During the month of August, JCP Cares is partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H. Customers shopping at Jcpenney stores this month will have the opportunity to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar, donating the difference to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H. Jcpenney kicked off the month, by donating $1 for every student who received a free haircut on Aug. 1, up to a total of $50,000, to our charity partners.
The two organizations jointly serve more than 10 million children each year by providing life-enriching after-school programs that inspire and empower children in communities across the country. "The support of after school-programs continues to be an important cause to Jcpenney and our customers," said Miki Woodard, President of JCP Cares and Vice President of Philanthropy of Jcpenney. 2012 Louisiana Area Council
The 2012 Louisiana Area Council was held this past week. Area Councils are an important and powerful force in the Boys & Girls Club Movement. They provide the chief medium for securing and maintaining the interest and active participation of Board Volunteers in national and regional Boys & Girls Club affairs. Area Councils are frequently the channels through which ideas, suggestions and proposals flow to the National Council. Conversely, Area Councils are often called upon to implement the programs and initiatives needed to expand the philosophy and aims of Clubs nationwide. Provision for establishment of Area Councils was adopted by the National Council in 1944. Since that time, they have been organized in nearly every state where Boys & Girls Clubs are located. Currently, there are 55
Area Councils, representing Board Volunteers from some 3,954 Boys & Girls Clubs. The National Board of Governors of Boys & Girls Clubs of America officially establishes an Area Council, designating the area in which it will function and the Clubs in that area eligible for membership. Member Clubs are represented at Area Council activities by Board Volunteers and their Chief Professional Officers. Each Boys & Girls Club organization should appoint a Board Volunteer as an Area Council Liaison whose responsibility is to keep his/her Club aware of and involved in Area Council activities.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana's board was awarded the High Performance Board Team Award. Patrick Patout with Gulf Coast Bank was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award. Bobby Hulett with Chevron was awarded the Service Award.
