A Newsletter Archive

Greetings!

Please forgive the delay, for I could not publish this newsletter in March or April.  The launch of the English Web site of the archives of Lisieux Carmel, which had been scheduled for the 19th of March, was delayed by illness.  I am happy to announce that 25% of the material on the Archives Web site has now been translated into English.  For details on this extraordinary resource, please see the article below.

With wishes for a blessed Pentecost,

The Archives of the Lisieux Carmel online in English: a work in progress
The English section of the Lisieux Carmel archives opened in the spring of 2012.  Their historic offerings include:
  1. You can view the three manuscripts handwritten by Therese which were published as Story of a Soul.
  2. You can read online the typewritten text of the English translation of Story of a Soul published by ICS Publications.
  3. You can read online the typewritten text of the English translation of The Prayers of St. Therese of Lisieux published by ICS Publications.

Until now the handwritten manuscripts have not been online,  and the English translations of Therese's writings that are online have all been translations of early, inauthentic versions.  Please join me in thanking the Lisieux Carmel and the Washington Province of Discalced Carmelite Friars for sharing these treasures with all those who have access to the Internet.

Exposition about the Martin Family
at St. Jacques Church in Lisieux
- May to November, 2012

The exhibit "Living on Love: at the heart of the Martin family" opened this month at St. Jacques Church, now a municipal exhibit hall, a short distance from the Carmel in Lisieux.  Open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the exhibit allows you to see many objects used by the Martin family and many photographs and documents.  It also recreates scenes from their lives.  Admission is 2 euros.  I recommend that all pilgrims to Lisieux make time to see it.  See a photo gallery or a photo show of an earlier exhibition.

The Carmelite Seminar 2012, "Saint Teresa of Avila and other Carmelite Voices," will take place from June 10-16 at St. Mary's  College, Notre Dame, Indiana.  It is sponsored by the Center for Spirituality of St. Mary's College in cooperation with the Carmelite Forum.  Everyone is welcome.  I have attended several times and always found it fruitful.  This year Fr. John Welch, O. Carm. will lead a workshop entitled "Therese and Transformation."  For information and to register, click here.
