Welcome to the September issue of Key Notes - Marketing Keys' monthly newsletter. Our goal is for you to be informed and entertained with the latest media and marketing happenings quickly and efficiently.

WHERE TO ADVERTISE IN 2012 AND BEYOND
Many of you are beginning to plan your 2012 media campaigns. It is apparent that  how your customers used media even a few years ago and how they are using it today is completely different. The U.S. population is older, more multicultural, more time-pressed and more jaded toward sales pitches than ever before. And your marketing strategy should be built accordingly. Budgets that used to be allocated for Print advertising or Yellow Pages is now going towards Digital/Online media, Performance-based commerce (paid search, deals, couponing) and customer retention business solutions (email marketing, social marketing, websites etc.). Marketing Keys can help you pinpoint the newest, most effective and most efficient ways of reaching your target.

iPhone 5 to be unveiled October 4th

Mobile Phone 2Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook, will hold a big media event October 4th to announce the iPhone 5. Rumor has it the iPhone 5 will be wider and thinner...featuring a 4-inch screen. The current iPhone 4 has a 3.5 inch screen. Another rumor is an improved camera with a 8 mega pixel camera. Whatever it is, it is bound to make a huge splash. The new CEO wants to position this new device as the ultimate smart phone in order to make Apple's stock continue to soar.

HEALTHCARE GIVING THE AD INDUSTRY A NICE "SHOT IN THE ARM!"

The advertising industry in Chicago and nationwide is up from a year ago and one of the big reasons why - Hospitals. In the first six months of 2011, advertising by American Hospitals, clinics and medical centers rose 20.4 percent to $717.2 million, from $595.5 million in the same period in 2010, according to the Kantar Media unit of WPP. One of the more clever TV spots is for the Mayo Clinic. The TV spot for Mayo Clinic that began in August starts with a single firefly in the night sky, which gradually lights up with too many to count, and is accompanied by the voiceover, "You can make an appointment with one doctor - or you can choose Mayo Clinic, where a team of experts work together for you."

Google +1 Button allows you to share your favorite online ads

See a banner ad online that you think a friend or family member might be interested in? Well, beginning in October, Google will give you the ability to share that ad with them. The +1 button is now on about a million websites, yielding more than 4 billion impressions a day. When you see an add you like, you can +1 it. By +1 to the ad, that is an ad that you like. The next time your friends or family see the ad, they'll also see your recommendation and your picture. Additionally, your friends are more likely to see the ad because such recommendations figure high in Google's search algorithms. It doesn't matter whether it's a search ad, a banner or a website. The results are tallied whatever the format. Would you be sharing ads?

NEW CABLE CHANNEL TARGETS EDUCATED MEN WHO EARN 150K OR MORE PER YEAR

There is a Cable Channel for just about anyone these days. Are you a golf fan? There is a 24 hour Golf Channel. Into Tennis? There's the Tennis Channel. Into History? How about The History Channel? Beginning in October, there will be a cable channel targeting the Rich Man - the successful, college-educated man who earns $150,000 or more a year and who wants to know how to spend his time and money. It is called VELOCITY and it is replacing the low-rated HD Theater on October 4th. It is being billed as a high-end men's lifestyle channel about fast cars, fancy auctions and football stars. Of the 118 million men ages 15 and older in the U.S., about 4 million are identified by the government as having incomes above $150,000 each year, according to data collected last year by the Census Bureau. It is unknown how many of those four million men will have access to Velocity. HD Theater is available in about 40% of the homes that have cable.
