Dear Songwork Members,

We hope you are enjoying Pat Pattison's POV series. Last week we released Part 1 of "2nd Person," and this week we are releasing Part 2.

We are also including a few links below to some previously released videos we have on the "Point of View" topic. One is a really great full lecture, and the other is a Quick Tip - both by Steve Seskin. As you'll find all over Songwork, the range of videos covering this one topic really work to reinforce one another rather than simply repeat the same information.

We hope you enjoy this week's videos, and please don't hesitate to let us know what you think!

Sincerely,

Jonelle Vette

Editorial Director at Songwork.com

This Week's New Video

Point of View with Pat Pattison: 2nd Person, Part 2

Now entering the 4th week in this series, this week's video is the second half of last week's class, "2nd Person, Part 1." Throughout the series, Pat dives into both "1st" and "2nd person," "direct address" and more, resulting in a comprehensive lecture series covering the most common points of view found in song lyrics. In this video, Pat continues to provide examples and suggest ways to think about and use POV in your songs.

Point of View: Quick Tip with Steve Seskin

This Quick Tip supports the full lecture (listed below) on POV. Steve encourages you to ask the following questions: Is it consistent? Have you chosen the most powerful way to tell the story?

Point of View with Steve Seskin

In this full length lecture, Steve reminds you to think about the "most powerful way to tell the story at hand." Essentially, choosing your POV is the same as deciding who is telling the story. Coming at it from this angle can have a really big impact on how a song develops, or if it even gets written at all! Point of view can even be the secret ingredient of a great song!
