Greetings!
Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and personal meaning. It is a time of giving thanks and to certainly appreciate what we and our community has achieved, both individually and collectively.
As Jews, Thanksgiving has played an important role in the overlapping of our American and Jewish identities. It is the only holiday that may rightly claim to be both Jewish and American. Indeed, while its expression is non-denominational, its origins, in effect, are Jewish. It should come as no surprise then that their celebration of deliverance and bounty following the harvest of 1621 was modeled after Sukkot, the Jewish celebration of the autumn harvest.
I was fortunate to participate in an Interfaith social action program on Sunday bringing together different faiths in the spirit of helping others less fortunate than ourselves. 200 food packages were assembled by volunteers who wanted to give back in a meaningful way. I am proud that our Jewish community, including our synagogues, participate in a variety of programs expressing gratitude and the caring for others.
I am thankful for many personal things, but I am equally thankful for you, our supporters, who make Delaware and the Brandywine Valley such a remarkable place to live.
Shabbat Shalom Seth J. Katzen Chief Executive Officer

Congregation Beth Emeth's 7th Grade Class learns about Eco Connection
|
On Sunday, 20 seventh graders from Congregation Beth Emeth learned about Eco-Connection, an innovative program connecting students in Delaware with their peers in Israel. Participants learn about ecology and the environment in a Jewish context while getting to know one another through blogging, Skype and joint projects. Eco-Connection has been an active program for students attending the Albert Einstein Academy, a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Delaware, for the past two years. The Arad-Tamar / New Jersey-Delaware Eco-Connection is supported by Federation's Partnership Together (P2G) made possible through the Annual Campaign. To learn more about this program Click here.

Moo Shoo with a Shmear
When Deborah Grayson Riegel, a professional coach and speaker, was invited to become a Visiting Professor of Executive Communications for the MBA program at Peking University in Beijing, China, she didn't realize how challenging it would be to live a Jewish life among more than a billion non-Jews. Find out how she coped and what she learned at the 17th Annual Jewish Women's Gathering, Thursday, December 8 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Siegel JCC.
Twelve local Jewish agencies have joined together to sponsor this annual event that includes dinner. Tickets are now $25 per person.

Action for Alan Gross
December 3, 2011 marks the two year anniversary of the incarceration of Alan Gross in Cuba. The Jewish Federations of North America and The Jewish Council for Public Affairs, together with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, are spearheading an effort to raise awareness of his plight. As part of this effort, we are using email and social media to alert individuals and communities across the country to Alan's situation; supporting Saturday, December 3rd as 'Alan Gross Shabbat' to help spread awareness; and asking Members of Congress to join the effort.
