Jewish tradition teaches us that one of our responsibilities is to make the world a better place for future generations.  Chances are you already donate generously to the Jewish charitable organizations of your choice.  But have you considered including those organizations in your will?

A legacy gift is a simple and meaningful way to help guarantee a strong Jewish community for generations to come.

    Greetings!

On Sunday, I had the privilege of attending a gathering of Federation Past-Presidents to discuss and better assess our community issues and evolving needs. The collective wealth of  experience and inspired leadership in one room was amazing.

This experience was only enhanced the following evening as Federation held our Major Gifts event to kick-off the 2012 Campaign. Nearly 60 attendees listened as Jerry Silverman, President and CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America, explained how our dollars are wisely spent to ensure, sustain, and enhance our Jewish community.

Last night, we officially welcomed Israel Fellow, Onn Halfon, to our community at a reception at the Siegel JCC. This initiative, in partnership with UD Hillel, provides a living bridge to our spiritual homeland.

As we end the work week and begin Shabbat, I reflect upon Jerry Silverman's closing comments on Monday night, confessing that his job is a privilege. Being able to lead our collective in making the world a better place both locally and around the world is an awesome responsibility yet empowering and personally fulfilling.

Thank you for granting me this sacred privilege.

    Shabbat Shalom.

Challah for Hunger - an organization that raises money and awareness for hunger and disaster relief through the production and sale of challah bread - has been making waves (or rather loaves) at college campuses across the country.

There are currently Challah for Hunger chapters at more than 45 campuses - including the University of Delaware, where Governor Jack Markell recently joined the students for some challah baking.

The Israel Action Network (IAN), a project of the JewishFederations in partnership with the JCPA, has collected 100,000 names (and growing) for a petition to counter the unilateral Palestinian statehood bid at the UN today - and delivered a supersized copy of the petition to the UN this week.
