Greetings!
The first bomb attack in Jerusalem since the 2004 intifada sent shock waves through the Jewish world on Wednesday, coming on the heels of rising tension in Israel's south. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the innocent victims of this senseless act of terror.
Meanwhile, in the country's south, the Israel Air Force struck targets in the Gaza Strip, as Palestinians fired rockets and mortar shells across the border into southern Israel.
Also this week, Jewish Federations and our partners continued to mobilize in response to the disaster in Japan, (see JFNA's most recent briefing on the efforts here . As of today, JFNA and Federations have raised more than $830,000 for Japan relief.
We are one global Jewish family in good times and bad. Thank you for all you do in building community. I look forward to seeing many of you at The PJ Library Benefit Concert Saturday evening.
Shabbat Shalom

Sepharad 101: TGIF
We all love Fridays, and Shabbat candles, wine and challah probably conjure up a whole set of feelings and memories, but who knew there was a Sephardic poet that could sum up that Friday night feeling in a way that resonates today?
Sabbath, My Love by Yehudah HaLevi I greet my love with wine and gladsome lay; Welcome, thrice welcome, joyous Seventh Day! Six slaves the weekdays are; I share With them a round of toil and care, Yet light the burdens seem, I bear For your sweet sake, Sabbath, my love! Click here for the full poem. |
