Greetings!
I began the week on Sunday night accompanying JCRC Chair, John Elzufon, to Newark for dinner with members of the Muslim business community. This was the first of what we hope will begin a series of open dialogue discussions that will include a broader scope of our community. Robin Karol-Eng joined me on Wednesday to Cherry Hill, NJ for a Partnership 2000 (P2K) Steering Committee meeting representing the municipalities of Arad and Tamar in Israel's Negev. We continue building a living bridge with our spiritual homeland through this important initiative. Attending the funeral of Muriel Gilman (z"l) this week was something I will never forget. Hundreds of Delawareans paid their respect including words from Governor Markell and Vice President Biden. I leave you with a quote from Muriel that truly touches the essence of the person she was, " Make it count today." Shabbat Shalom.

Wilmington Holocaust Survivor/Witness Featured in Delaware Press This Week
The Jewish Federation of Delaware proudly supports the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Center. The Center supported the creation of a DVD collection called "No Denying: Delawareans Bear Witness to the Holocaust," directed by Steve Gonzer.
This week two Delaware papers featured separate stories about Jerry Ansul, a Holocaust witness, and Anne Jaffe, a Holocaust survivor who recently visited teacher Kathleen Swierzbinki's classroom.
Swierzbinski brought the speakers to her school after watching the "No Denying" DVD presentation. Jaffe's recent testimony makes one of 350 presentations she has made throughout Delaware and the country.

Sen. Chris Coons |
By Michelle Effron Miller
In light of the recent unrest in Egypt, Libya and the Middle East in general, and concerning the constant threat of a bellicose Iran, there is legitimate reason to focus on Israel's safety. Delaware's Senator Chris Coons is aware of that fact and journeyed to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan and Israel last month to get some answers.
Read the next issue of the Jewish Voice (April 3rd) to learn his impressions about Israel and this tumultuous region. Click to last month's editorial on the topic. |
