Holiday Turkeys

Turkeys

Gearing up for the holidays, White Oak Pastures is proud to announce our holiday turkeys.

White Oak Pastures Free Range Pastured Turkeys are very different from the hybrid industrial turkeys you see around the holidays. Our American Standard Bronze turkeys are less susceptible to pathogens, can fly, are not forced to molt, have a normal walking gate and can run, jump and even roost as adults.

Our turkeys are excellent foragers, which causes them to have more dark meat, a greater source of protein, and lower in fat per serving. We are proud that our turkeys have a smaller carbon footprint, which requires more land per bird.

Our turkeys are priced:

Small/ 8-12 lbs--$75.00

Medium/12-16 lbs--$100.00

Large/16 lbs and up-- $125.00

Eggs Now Available Through Destiny Organics

Eggs

White Oak Pastures is not only raising meat birds! Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Well, who says we have to decide?  Let's have both.

White Oak Pastures is trying our hand with eggs and we currently have about 50 chickens of different layer breeds, laying about 5-6 dozen of eggs per day!

This is a new venture that we are proud to offer. Destiny Organics will be carrying our eggs.

Things are beginning to cool off here on the farm, and with the cool weather begins our calving season. Everyone here at White Oak Pastures is excited to see new calves everyday!

Calving season continues until early January. If you would like to visit to see our newest additions, call us and we will be happy to show you around.

We have lots of news to share this fall, so read on for the latest updates!

The time has also come to ship our free range pastured chickens! After our grand opening ribbon cutting on August 24, we are finally able to process our poultry in our on-farm USDA-Inspected, zero-waste poultry abattoir.

Named the T-Rex Red after their resemblance to the tyrannosaurus rex, this proprietary breed was developed for White Oak Pastures to fit our pasture centered program. Our breed is a cross of several heritage breeds. We feel strongly about raising birds the way they evolved on pasture, scratching and pecking the way chickens are supposed to do.

We are currently processing 500 birds per day, available for sale through Whole Foods Market, and distributed to restaurants by Buckhead Beef, Halpern's and Destiny Organics. To order directly from the farm, please visit our website.

Not only are we proud to offer free range chickens and turkeys, but we are also raising ducks! Please call our office at 229-641-2081 if you are interested in placing an order for these real free range, swimming birds. Our ducks are Peking and weigh about 5 pounds each, selling for $4.24 per pound.

Sheep

If beef, chicken and duck don't excite you, maybe our free range lamb will! We are proud to have our lamb for sale in our online store, and available to restaurants through Buckhead Beef. Sheep naturally fit into our grazing program called the Serengeti Rotational Grazing Model. This is a magical system for our land, and allows grazing and fertilizing in three different ways. First cattle graze each pasture, followed by sheep, followed by birds. This system has allowed us to increase land organic matter and helps provide our livestock and birds with healthy and nutritious grass.

New Concrete Underpass

Underpass

To our dismay, the Department of Transportation is increasing the road that runs through White Oak Pastures to four lanes.  Will could not stop the road, but we tenaciously insisted that they provide us with a way of safely getting our herds and flocks across the highway since The Serengeti Plains Rotational Grazing Model is integral to our program.

Will consulted with Dr. Temple Grandin on the best means to accomplish this.  It wound up being a 235-foot long, 10-foot high, 10-foot wide concrete underpass so that we can cross under the road.  It is "at grade" which means that the rain water in the ditch flows under the "cow cave".  Get a little wine in Will and ask him to tell you the story of "The Battle of Cow Run"!
