Greetings,
As many of you know, one of the rug hooking world's most esteemed and respected businesses, McAdoo Rugs, went out of business earlier this year. Located in North Bennington, Vermont, this cottage industry was famous for its beautiful hooked rugs. To put it mildly, it was a sad day when McAdoo closed.
Recently the entire contents of the McAdoo Rugs Red Mill was auctioned off. I was extremely fortunate to be able to purchase all of the McAdoo rug designs. The paper patterns are now safely stored in my barn and I feel like I have a national treasure in my care. There are over 1000 rug designs. I'll start selling some of the patterns on monk's cloth and linen in January, 2011 for punch needle and traditional rug hookers who want to hook their own rugs. I also have color photographs of each rug as well as diagrams showing what colors the McAdoos used and the yarn amounts needed.

McAdoo Rug Designs Saved
It took two moving vans to deliver all of the paper patterns to my barn on a cold day last spring. Many of these rolls contain over a dozen patterns each. The arrival of the patterns was exciting but also extremely daunting!
 | Preston McAdoo came for 4 days when the weather warmed up to help me sort the patterns. It was really fun to listen to him reminisce about the stories behind many of the rugs. At one point he said, "The Queen of England stepped on this one!" Apparently this large rug had been made for the entryway of a home in Kentucky that the Queen visited when she came to the Kentucky Derby during a visit to the United States. |

Mountains of McAdoo Rug Yarn - 2000 Pounds of Yarn For Sale! McAdoo Rugs was beloved by rug making enthusiasts for their marvelous hand-dyed rug yarns. This 3-ply 100% wool yarn was specially spun for it's durability. Preston McAdoo created an unmatched, exquisite palette of 270 colors that were absolutely gorgeous and reliably colorfast. When McAdoo Rugs closed, there was a large-scale state of panic across the country and a cry of, "What are we going to do without McAdoo Rug Yarn?" As well as the patterns, I also bought the last of this yarn at auction. There is approximately 2000 pounds of it, literally a ton of yarn! I had to rent a 17' U-Haul to pick it up. It's absolutely beautiful yarn, a rug puncher's dream. I'd like to invite you to come to my barn in Cornwall for a special sale of the yarn. What a wonderful thing to get to use the last of this prized yarn in our rugs. All the best, Amy
