Seacrest Landscape Tip

Looking for a low maintenance landscape plant that stands

out in the summer season in South Florida? Annuals can be a perfect solution. These flowers can add beauty to an often drab landscape. With their seemingly infinite variety of flower color and plant form fit into almost any landscape situation.

Annuals are especially valuable in Florida. Many of them grow and flower during the trying months of June, July, August, and September, persistently bloom through the heat and heavy summer rains.

This summer, we suggest using Periwinkles (Vinca minor). These blue-violet Annuals can tolerate high temperature and humidity and should be planted in late spring or early summer.

Remember, putting the right plant in the right place is of foremost importance in creating a healthy and successful low-maintenance landscape.

The Foundation for Rural Communities and Seacrest Services are saving and changing lives everyday in Nicaragua.  The goal is to improve towns in Nicaragua such as Mata-De-Cana, Santa Cruz and Los-Lorralles with each project.

Various feeding programs and water improvement programs have been implemented in these locations to help improve quality of life.

In the most recent trip to Nicaragua, several Seacrest employees attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate a new water system that brought running water to each individual home in the village of Mata-De-Cana. According to Mark Forsythe, Seacrest Landscape Installation Manager, " This is life changing for the people in this village. They now have clean running water that can be used for cleaning and drinking". Mr. Forsythe was in attendance of this momentous occasion.

A water engineer provided by Seacrest Services was brought in and developed a plan to remove the manual pump, clean out the well and install a submersible pump, water tower, holding tank and a generator since there is no electricity in the village.

Currently, an analysis is being done to see if the water system in Mata-De-Cana can be duplicated in other villages in Nicaragua. Seacrest Services is proud to be serving along side the Foundation for Rural Communities and improving conditions in Nicaragua.

Seacrest Pest Control Tip

Swarming termites are an unwelcome addition to your home during this season. During this time of year, swarming termites can indicate a possible  infestation.

Be aware of the following indications of termites:

  • Winged, black insects about one-quarter-inch long and look similar to flying ants
  • Damaged wood
  • Softening of wood
  • Wings or dead termites on the floor or on other surfaces in or around the home

Similar to flying ants in appearance, winged termites are dark in color and have two pairs of long wings, have thick waists and straight antennae.
