Do You Know About the Betties?

- donated over 150 hours of community service;
- raised over $3,000 for local non-profit groups, and
- are over 50 women strong.
And...a little known fact, Birch Equpment's Bellingham Store manager, Jeninne Duncan, spent some time as a 'Bettie' a few years back!
Some of the terms you may hear at a Bout include:
- Bout - the game played between tow teams in two 30 minute periods.
- Jammer - Sprint skater, wearing a star helmet, who breaks away from the pack & scores points by lapping the opposing team members.
-Lead Jammer - The first jammer to legally break through earns the strategic advantage of calling off the jam; she signals the ref by putting her hands on her hips.
-Blockers - Each team gets up to 4 blockers on the track. They make holes in the pack for their jammer to get through & block the opposing team's jammer.
Pivot - Each team gets one pivot, wearing a striped helmet, on the track. She sets the pace of the pack by skating in front. She is also the blocker that can become the jammer & score points.
-Pack - Two teams of three blockers & a pivot, for a total of eight, skating in formation.
-Jam - A two minute scoring session(unless called off early). |
