Beyond Birth and Rebirth
Poornima, full moon, symbol of completeness.
28 May, Buddha Poornima will celebrate Buddha's enlightenment
Full Moon
Episode Two

In April, we explored the potential of being born again at every breath. Investigating further, we ask ourselves: can we be reborn happy? If you do not want to be reborn happy, you can stop reading.

A common answer in eastern liberation teachings is that a feeling of separation, often called "Avidya", ignorance or our true self, makes us unhappy: the illusion that something is missing to be complete; full; One. The western tradition understands this as the consumerist system is designed to enhance a feeling of being incomplete. Have you ever felt this way? Consumerism tells us to buy more things to fulfill us-, We know we cannot be fulfilled in the material world!

Since this moment's Karma plants the seed for the next moment's destiny (and happiness): what can we do now to be reborn happier in the next moment? What is a practical way to make us more "full"?

Yogi-nomad believes that this is the aim of an integral practice: a practice that addresses all aspects of life, both internal, external, individual and collective aspects: Life in its totality!

Let's look at our practice: does it apply to my individual-external body, like asana or to my individual-internal self, like meditation? Does it apply to us, as a group, like karma yoga, improving our collective-internal values or does it apply to our external-collective systems like actively promoting democracy or protecting the environment?

Of course nothing is simple, and many elements of our practice will apply to more than one category. Take diet for example. It can benefit your body (individual-external) and also your soul/mind (individual-internal) if you are vegetarian, by reducing your karmic impact through the practice of non-violence. When you are invited to eat somewhere, you will trigger a response in your community (collective-internal) on value and ethics if you do not shy away from the question: why are you vegetarian? Evidently, it will also impact the world at large (external-collective) by living a more sustainable way of life.

As the result of your enquiry, you may find that your efforts impact all four sections in a balanced way and that you are already integral in your practice. In any case the analysis of your practice is an integral practice! In our next edition we will investigate constant practice "Abhyâsa" and how to take your practice out of the studio into your life 24/24, 7/7. Thank you for all your support and energy!
