Fascination grows as $300M Torrance
hospital tower rises

The foundation footprint of the $300 million Torrance Memorial Medical Center project in Torrance, Calif., is 30 feet deep and will require three massive concrete pours totaling 10,000 cubic yards. The seven-story, 256-bed hospital expansion boasts several sustainability features and will meet state earthquake-safety standards.

Construction of Expo Line's second part to begin.
This phase will involve a new group of contractors, a fixed budget and a larger contingency fund for unknown costs, says the head of the Expo Line construction authority.

Developers of a $1.2 billion stadium in Los Angeles may be able to avoid court battles over the project's environmental impact now that California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill meant to expedite court rulings. The project is expected to create about 12,000 construction jobs. "[T]here are too many damn regulations. I've got some power now. Let's cut the barriers and regulations and move ahead," said Brown.
