Raising Readers in Maine
Celebrating 10 Years and 1.3 Million BooksMay 2010
And the Winner Is...
Last month we solicited title ideas for our next anthology of stories by Maine authors and illustrators and we received nearly 75 ideas. Wow! The winnning idea is Raising Readers: A Treasury of Tales from Maine. Our thanks to Sonja for submitting the idea. We plan to continue the anthology series so we'll hang on to all the other great ideas for future use. The books in the 2011 anthology will be announced this fall - watch for details.

Brand-new Readers
Raising Readers recently joined parents-to-be, families and staff at several hospitals for events welcoming new- or soon-to-be- borns. Participants learned about the resources available to them as new parents and celebrated their new arrivals.  Thanks to Bridgton Hospital, Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for including books and reading in these events. Maine families are welcomed to Raising Readers with a tote bag filled with books at the birth of a child. Each child's personal library continues to grow thanks to the books given at each well child visit through age five.
