A Decade of Books and Readingding
Raising Readers is an ambitious effort conceived by Maine's Libra Foundation as a unique strategy to foster a love of reading, improve literacy among babies and young children, and ultimately, improve health and educational outcomes of Maine children. Since 2000, Raising Readers has distributed over 1.3 million books to more than 166,000 individual Maine children at well-child visits with their healthcare providers. |
New Books for the New Year
We use each book for about a year and then switch to a new title in each age group to expose Maine families to a variety of great children's books. The two-month book is one of the first to changeover in 2010. Little Scholastic Colors introduces babies to yet another way to enjoy a book - through texture! Children will enjoy feeling the soft duck or running their fingers over the bumpy frog. Ribbitt.
Use the searchable book database to find other great books to enjoy with your young baby. You can search by age, topic, author and a number of other categories. |
Prescription for Reading
"I think if we can give our Maine children that excitement and wonder to find out what is in a book it may be the most important gift they will ever receive. If they learn to love to read it will not only give them many hours of pleasure, but will unlock the doors to a life of learning. I am daily honored to be a part of the Raising Readers program when I am able to present a baby or child with a wonderful book they will love."
