Hubbard For House Newsletter
Friends,
Summer has come and gone, the kids are back in school, and the political season is upon us. With Labor Day right around the corner, our campaign is shifting into high gear. Our hard work has positioned this race as the number one offensive race in the Alabama House. We will continue to work hard to reach out to the members of this community, whose response has been overwhelming. We wouldn't be where we are today without the support of friends like you. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me and Ashley through this process with their time, money, and prayers. We produced our television ads this month, and we aired the first one, "Say Anything," this week. We are within reach of our total fundraising goal, and your contribution can help us meet our final budget by the end of the month. Reaching that budget will allow us to get out message out to the voters in this community. You can make a secure, online contribution at http://bit.ly/81QbFo. A donation of $50, $100, or $250 will give us the resources to continue the tone of pace of our advertising campaign through September and October. You can also sign up for ways to help with the campaign, here: http://bit.ly/cwnWQS.
Your continued prayers and support are deeplyappreciated. Don't forget to forward this Newsletter along to anyone you think may be interested in our efforts to build a better Montgomery.

Joe Unites Members of Montgomery Bar
On Wednesday, August 11, members of the Montgomery County Bar Association hosted a fundraiser for our campaign. The event was held at the firm of Capell & Howard. The fundraiser was hosted by 48 partners in fourteen of Montgomery's prominent firms. The host list covered a diverse spectrum of legal and political backgrounds. I was honored to have the support of so many of my distinguished colleagues.
It was humbling to see that my vision for a better Montgomery has resonated with my peers as strongly as it has with the voters of my district. The best way to bridge Montgomery's divides is through a bi-partisan effort, and I am committed working with the good people of both parties to solve the challenges facing District 73.

Joe Pushes Back Against Push-Poll
Earlier this month, I had to call on my opponent to stop negative campaign tactics in the wake of a misleading "push-poll." The call went out by phone to voters throughout the 73rd district and was disguised as a public opinion poll.
The out-of-state call attempted to tarnish me with false claims about my reputation and character. The false claims were followed up by leading questions that praised my opponent, Rep. David Grimes. After numerous supporters called me with complaints about the push-poll, I called my opponent and asked him to repudiate the poll.
Instead of distancing himself from it, David, defended the poll on WSFA. "I read the questions," said Grimes, "and I don't find anything personally offensive." Of course, the problem with the push-poll was not that its questions were offensive; they were untrue.
These are the kind of campaign tactics that David and I promised to refrain from and repudiate. Instead of distancing himself from these false attacks, David has chosen to defend them and now says that I need to get used to them because it's politics.
Notably, local conservative talk-show host, Dan Morris, condemned the push-poll on his morning talk-show, "Viewpoint," and questioned Grimes' judgment in defending the negative attacks, especially in light of the divisive June primary and the clean campaign pledge David and I entered in June. On August 30, we start our first television ad on cable and broadcast. The ad, entitled, "Say Anything," is a light-hearted approach to dealing with the rediculous allegations that too often find their way into political advertisements. The spot is unconventional, but it makes an important point: some people will say anything in the course of a political campaign, without regard for truth.
Our challenge is not respond to those kinds of attacks in kind, but to take the high road and stay focussed on the challenges that face our community. There is too much at stake in this election for this race to become about partisan divisions and political attacks. We must focus on what unites us and how we can work together to address the challenges that face us.
