AVOID A HUGE GAP IN COVERAGE

Do you lease a car? Do you have a car loan? If so, do you have the loan/lease gap coverage endorsement on your auto policy? This coverage extends the coverage afforded under Collision and Comprehensive to provide coverage for the difference between the outstanding indebtedness on a loan/lease agreement on a new vehicle, and the actual cash value of the vehicle. Massachusetts Auto policies only provide actual cash value. You may have a huge gap in coverage without this endorsement. Please give our office a call to discuss this further.

NEW FEDERAL RULE ON HAND-HELD PHONES
There is a new Federal rule that restricts "hand-held use of mobile telephones by drivers of commercial motor vehicles that are over 10,000 pounds. This rule contains penalties that apply both to drivers and their employers. Drivers convicted of violating these prohibitions may be fined up to $2,750 for the first violation and each subsequent violation. In addition, two or more offenses within a two or three year period, will result in either a 30 or 60 day revocation of driving privileges. Employers who allow or require their drivers to use hand held mobile telephones while driving could be fined up to $11,000.
We recommend that employers educate your drivers on this new rule by preparing a written training program that is clear and focused and which includes a "sign off" by the employee as evidence that he understands behaviors that are not permissible. |

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MA PROPERTY OWNERS Are you a homeowner or a commercial property owner in Massachusetts? As a result of a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling last year, you are now legally liable to remove all snow and ice from your premises. Prior to this ruling, you would not be at fault if naturally accumulating snow and ice was left untreated. Now, you must be sure to take the proper precautions to ensure that areas are cleared and safe. To make sure that your property is protected, we recommend the following:
1) Confirm that you have sufficient liability insurance coverage. We recommend that most property owners have at least $1,000,000 in General Liability coverage as well as an Umbrella policy. We welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your coverage needs.
2) Shovel and treat ice on your property early and often. Ensure that all areas are clear to avoid slip and fall accidents.
3) Call your local Town Hall to find out if the sidewalks in your city or town are municipally-owned. Depending on where you live, you may be required to clear the sidewalks in front of your home or business.
