10 Most Stolen Vehicles for 2010
The National Insurance Crime Bureau recently announced that the most stolen vehicles in the nation last year were again mid-1990s Hondas. According to law enforcement data, the most stolen vehicles for 2010 were: 1994 Honda Accord; 1995 Honda Civic; 1991 Toyota Camry; 1999 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size); 1997 Ford F150 Series/Pickup; 2004 Dodge Ram; 2000 Dodge Caravan; 1994 Acura Integra; 2002 Ford Explorer; and 1999 Ford Taurus. By employing these simple, low-cost suggestions people can make their vehicles less attractive to thieves. Common Sense: Lock your car and take the keys. Seems simple enough, but many thefts occur because owners make it easy for thieves to steal their cars. Warning Devices: Having and using a visible or audible warning device is another item that can ensure that your car remains where you left it. Immobilizing Device: Generally speaking, if your vehicle can't be started, it can't be stolen. "Kill" switches, fuel cut-offs and smart keys are among the devices which are extremely effective. Tracking Device: A device emits a signal to the police or to a monitoring station when the vehicle is stolen. Tracking devices are effective in helping authorities recover stolen vehicles. Some systems employ "telematics" which combine GPS and wireless technologies to allow remote monitoring of a vehicle. If the vehicle is moved, the system will alert the owner and the vehicle can be tracked. |

Deterring Theft: Contractor's Equipment
Equipment theft is a common, costly, and growing problem throughout the U.S. Estimates of the value of the equipment stolen from construction sites range from $300 million to $1 billion annually and are rising. Professional theft rings and individual thieves are more active than ever. Opportunity and market are two of the key reasons for the increase. Contractor's equipment rarely has identifying marks and is often left unprotected on job sites, making it easy to steal. Smaller equipment such as a tractor or loader is also easy and quickly sold within the U.S. or abroad. In addition, law enforcement resources to combat equipment theft are limited, resulting in low recovery and apprehension rates. Taking preventative action is your first line of defense against equipment theft. And since it isn't always possible to prevent theft, you may need contractors equipment coverage to protect your investment and ensure that you can get back to business after a theft loss. |
