Back To School:  Make Sure Your College/Boarding School Student Is Covered

LogoKids who live away at school have special homeowner and auto insurance needs.

On the homeowner insurance side, please be advised that coverage for their computers must be specifically purchased.  Second, depending on their living situation, they may need coverage for their general personal property such as clothing, furniture, appliances and general electronics.

As far as the auto insurance is concerned, the insurance company can deny a claim if in the event of a loss it is determined that the vehicle is "garaged" in a town other than the town named on the policy.  For this reason, it is important to notify us if your student is bringing his or her vehicle away to school.  The more positive news is that we have a lot of great discounts available for students and a quick conversation with one of our MTM customer service representatives will determine which ones you qualify for.

If you have a student who will be going away to college, please call us so we may assist you in ensuring that you have proper coverage in place and are receiving the benefit of the lowest premiums!

Security Breaches:  Are you covered?

An employee at a large national mortgage company was caught scheming to steal and sell personal information from over $2 million mortgage applicants.  In the past few years major retailers such as TJ Maxx, Hannafords, Barnes and Noble, and BJ's Wholesale Club have had the their computer systems hacked and the perpetrators were able to obtain the credit card information, addresses, social security numbers and other personal information of people who shopped at those stores.

Some companies do not even have to be hacked to experience a security breach.  A Georgia health insurance company accidentally sent 100,000 benefit letters to the wrong addresses, in a privacy breach that also raised concerns about identity theft.  Due to the strict security laws that many states have in place, security breaches such as these can end up costing a company millions of dollars.  Unfortunately, most business insurance policies do not provide coverage for security breaches and companies who have had their customer information compromised have to pay any costs they incur, such as law suits, fines and other fees.

At MTM, we have a solution to this problem.  We represent several insurance companies that can offer low cost security insurance policies that will protect your company in the event your security has been breached.  These security insurance policies will reimburse you for many of the costs associated with security breaches, including the fines and fees which may be imposed by the various states that you do business in.  They can also cover you from any lawsuits that are filed against you by clients who identities may have been stolen due to a security breach and for any loss of income you experience from clients who may leave you due to a security breach.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss how these policies may benefit you.

MTM Insurance Staff Attends Business Etiquette Workshop

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, but there is always room for improvement.  In this economy, it is everyone's duty to give customers the absolute , very best attention and to create a positive atmosphere in the business you work in.  Being good at what you do is
. . .good, but being the best at what you do, presenting well, with consideration, promptness and courtesy to all your customers. . .well, that's the BEST!

That's why we arranged for Trish Martini of Soiree in Andover to provide a "business etiquette" workshop for the entire staff at MTM.  We know it's the little things that matter and it is all those "little" but vital behaviors that we focused on in the workshop.

For more information about this workshop, contact Trish at SoireeAndover.com.

We hope you've enjoyed reading this newsletter!  Look for our next issue in October.
