MTM Voted #1 Insurance Agency in North Andover

MTM has been voted the #1 Insurance Agency in North Andover for the third year in a row!  We also received the Silver Award, second place, for the best insurance agency in the region.
You are in good hands when you do business with MTM.

Replacement Cost vs. Market Value

In the insurance industry we insure your buildings and your personal property for their replacement cost; the cost to rebuild or replace them with material of like kind and quality.

Market Value, the price they can be "bought" or "sold" for, has very little significance when we determined how much insurance you need to purchase to properly protect your buildings  and personal property.

It is crucial that you insure your buildings and personal property for 100% of the cost to rebuild or replace.  Failure to do so can leave you "underprotected" in the event of a loss and, most important, can result in penalties.

MTM has the tools necessary to assist our clients in determining the current cost to replace both your residential and commercial buildings.  We can also help you determine appropriate levels of coverage for your personal property, inventory and other assets.

If you are interested in having us re-evaluate your coverage, do not hesitate to contact us.

Spring Floods Are On Their Way!!!!!

Contrary to popular belief, water damage coverage due to malfunction of sewers, drains and sumps is not automatically included in your Homeowners policy.

For a small premium, we can add this coverage to your homeowner policy to cover water which backs up through sewers or drains or water which overflows from a sump pump even if such overflow results from the mechanical breakdown of the sump pump.

Our clients, especially those with finished basements, have benefited greatly from this additional coverage in the past and with spring approaching, I strongly urge anybody who hasn't added it to their policy to consider adding it now.

Complete A Home Inventory

Everyone Needs a Personal Property Inventory

Successfully filing a claim for lost, damaged, or destroyed property requires some specific information.  Obviously, you need to know what you owned, but it would also help to know when you bought it, and what you paid.  The easiest way to capture that information, and to speed up any claim you may have, is to do a complete household inventory.

Do It Today!

Making a household inventory is well worth your time.  Don't put it off!  In the aftermath of a fire or other catastrophe, it is almost impossible to remember what you've lost.

When creating your Home Inventory, follow these steps:

List Everything:  First, go through each room, listing major items.  Include purchase date and price, if known.  Check receipts if you have them.  Include serial numbers for appliances, electronics, and cameras.

Photograph or Videotape:  Open all closet and cabinet doors.  Stand in the center of each room and take one picture of each wall.  Or scan the room with a video camera.

Store your records:  Place your completed inventory, plus labeled photos, negatives, or tapes, in a safe place away from your home, preferably a safe deposit box.

Update Annually:  Keep your inventory up to date.  List and photograph new purchases and gifts as they arrive in your home.  Cross off items you no longer own.

Personal Umbrella Policy

Accidents happen, and almost as frequently so do lawsuits.  In fact, over the last decade the number of liability lawsuits has dramatically increased.  The average award settlement has skyrocketed, too; often climbing above $1,000,000 dollars.

What's more, these awards have nothing to do with a defendant's ability to pay.  Defendants are legally obligated to pay whether they have the resources or not.  This means a judgment could impact future income.  Worse yet, such a judgment may impact assets such as your home, savings, and valuables.

Here's how it works:  Say you have a $1,000,000 Personal Umbrella Liability Policy and an Auto Policy with liability limits of $250,000 per accident.  If a judgment of $800,000 is awarded against you and your Auto Policy covers the first $250,000 your Umbrella Policy would cover the $550,000 difference.  Without a Personal Umbrella Liability Supplement, however, the extra $550,000 would have to come from your other assets.

Don't wait until it's too late.  For an average cost of about $200 a year--less than $17 per month!--you can upgrade your liability protection with $1,000,000 of coverage.

So why not call us today and let us design an Umbrella Policy to meet your individual needs?  At the same time, we'll be happy to discuss the many other great values available to you. We will make your insurance experience both rewarding and easy.

Thank you for being a valued customer.  We look forward to helping you with all your future insurance needs.

Why Schedule Your Personal Property ?

There are times in your life when it is appropriate to stop what you're doing and take inventory.  This is one of those times.  A time to literally take stock of what you have.  Because while your current homeowners policy provides excellent coverage at a very affordable price, some of your most precious items may not be fully covered.   A scheduled Personal Property Endorsement can fill the shortfall.  It's quick and easy to add, providing protection for items such as:

-Jewelry (in and out of vault) including engagement rings and watches

-Coins--rare and current

-Stamps and Stamp Collections

-Silverware, including silver plated, gold plated, or pewterware

-Hobby collections, including items such as memorabilia, souvenirs, and collection items such as trading cards, comic books, etc.

-Limited Editions, including limited edition dolls, plates, figurines such as Hummels, rare books, antiques and historical photographs

-Fine Arts

-Cameras

-Furs and fur garments

-Golf Equipment, including golf clothes

-Musical Instruments

-Sports Equipment

-Firearms

Here are just a few of the many benefits of a Scheduled Personal Property Endorsement:

-No deductible

-Coverage provided for mysterious disappearances and breakage

-Standard homeowner policies cap coverages in these classes

A valuable item can take weeks', months' or years' worth of income to purchase, but only a few seconds to be lost due to theft, natural disaster or other unforeseen events.  Don't wait until you suffer a loss to find out that your precious possessions were not covered.

Not sure what's worth covering, or how much coverage you need?  Not a problem. Your agent can determine what coverage provides you with the best value.

RMV Establishes Parental Consent Policy

Customers applying for permits, licenses, or identification cards who are under the age of 18 (minors) must obtain written consent from a parent, a legal guardian, a social worker, or a boarding school headmaster.  For a learner's permit, or identification card, a person gives written consent by signing the front of the permit/ID application.  If the person signing the front of the application is not a parent, documentation of the person's guardian status must be shown at the time of the permit/ID application and, for a license, at the time of the road test.

Transactions That Require Parental Consent:

Parent/guardian consent is required for the following license/ID transactions:

-Learner's Permit Exam
-Road Test
-Out-of-State Conversion of a License or Permit

Transactions That DO NOT Require parental Consent

-Duplicate License/ID
-Issuance of a License after road test is passed*
-Change of Information
-Reinstatements

*The Driver Licensing Department will handle situations when a parent or guardian withdraws his/her consent in between the time of the road test and the license issuance.

A customer is eligible for one set of plates, either passenger or motorcycle, for each medal he/she was awarded.

These plates are not available in RMV branches.  To apply for one of these plates, a customer must complete a new RMV application for Active Duty Awarded Medal Plates (document #21855-0311) and send it, along with the required documentation, to the Special Plates Department at the address at the top of the application.  The new application is available on the RMV website and Print on Demand.

-Motorcycle Special (MCS)
Active Duty Plate Decals
The new Active Duty Awarded Plates are actually the same as the Veterans' Awarded Medal Plates.  The only difference is that an Active Duty decal is placed over the word "Veteran" on the plate.  The plates are entered into ALARS the same as Awarded Medal Plates for Veterans; ALARS does not distinguish between Active Duty or Veterans' Awarded Medal Plates.

When will the Customer Receive the Plates?

Upon receipt and approval of the customer's application, the Special Plates Department will advance-swap the plates and mail them to the customer.  The customer should then receive the Active Duty Awarded Medal Plates within two weeks.

What Happens When the Customer Leaves Active Duty Service?

Active Duty Awarded Medal Plates must be turned-in to the RMV when the registrant leaves active military service.  At that time, the registrant (if qualified) may apply for a Veterans' Awarded Medal Plate (also at no fee).
