Water Damage
We've seen a lot of flooding these past few years. There is very limited coverage for water damage under the homeowner policy. However, water damage coverage caused by the back up of sewers, drains and sump pumps can be added by endorsement. The premium for this additional coverage is very low. Call us today for a quote.

Boating Safety
Imagine what it would be like if you didn't need a license to drive. Scary, isn't it? Well, you don't need a license to operate a boat in most states, which makes boating safety and education extremely important. Many insurers offer discounts for boat owners who have completed boating safety courses and boaters could benefit from advice from their independent insurance agents.
Along with safety education, boaters should follow these suggestions for responsible boating:
Care and protection of vessel:
-Check weather forecasts before heading out.
-Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to return.
-Check engine, fuel, electrical, and steering systems, especially for exhaust-system leaks.
-Carry one or more fire extinguishers. Keep them readily accessible.
-Equip the vessel with required navigation lights and with a whistle, horn, or bell.
-Consider additional safety devices such as
a paddle or oars, a first-aid kit, a supply of fresh water, a tool kit and spare parts, a flashlight, flares, and a radio.

The High Cost of Security Breaches to Businesses and Individuals
In today's technology driven society, security breaches have become commonplace. In just the last year, many prominent companies such as TJ Maxx, Barnes & Noble and Hannnaford Groceries all have had their customer's personal information stolen as a result of security breaches.
Unfortunately, traditional insurance policies do not provide insurance protection for claims due to security breaches or for the fines that can be incurred. States can now levy heavy fines on companies who do not comply with the new regulations--costs of security breaches can be in the millions of dollars.
We now have access to 23 different insurance companies who can offer insurance coverage for security breaches. These policies can cover the high cost of notifying clients and employees of security breaches, pay any fines that have been incurred and even help you restore the confidence of your clients and the good name of your business.
Please give us a call so we can assess your need for a privacy program and provide you with a detailed review of insurance programs that will fit your needs.

Safeguards for Vacationing Homeowners
Burglars apparently don't take holidays. Burglars breaking into homes this summer may be after more than jewelry and electronic equipment--they may be looking to steal a new identity.
Keep important documents, expensive jewelry and other items in a safety deposit box in a bank or other secure location.
Did you know that most burglaries occur in July and August?
Before you leave on vacation, follow these important steps:
-Have mail and packages picked up, forwarded or held by the post office. Also, stop newspaper deliveries and ask a neighbor to pick-up circulars.
-Leave blinds or curtains open in their usual position. This will make it appear that someone is home.
-Ask a neighbor for help. Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the home while you are away. Make arrangements for the lawn to be mowed. Only tell people that you know and trust that you are going away--this may not include all your "friends" on Facebook.
You may be interested in an optional coverage that can help you recover expenses associated with identity theft. For a low annual premium of approximately $30 per year, you can purchase an identity fraud endorsement which covers losses such as lost earnings, legal fees, and many other expenses associated with restoring your credit rating and reapplying for loans and credit.
Please call us to discuss this added financial protection further.

Question of the Month
Q: If a tree falls on my property during a storm, what coverage to I have ?
A: If your neighbor's tree falls on your property and damages a structure, there is coverage for the damaged structure and coverage for the removal of the fallen tree under your homeowner policy.
If a tree does not fall on a structure, regardless of whether or not the tree falls from your property or your neighbor's property, there is no coverage whatsoever for the removal of the tree itself.
Optional coverage may be available to cover tree removal even if the tree has not damaged a structure. We would be happy to review this option further at your request.
