The 2011 -2012 school year has had a wonderful start despite the challenging setbacks of Hurricane Irene. This year, EEO is established within 6 public schools across Harbour Island and Eleuthera. We are providing over 100 students with specialized literacy remediation to help them reach their potential. Our dedicated staff of teachers, volunteers, therapists and seminar speakers are helping children learn to read ...and believe in themselves. We are happy to share with you just a few happenings this Fall/Winter semester. Please contact us if you would like to get involved. Your support is crucial .

EEO has been given the valuable gift of expert help from the Stephen Gaynor School in New York City. This summer past , two amazing special education teachers ( Julia Borders and Alex Bermel featured above ) came for 3 weeks to provide a Literacy camp for 18 of our EEO students in the Hatchet Bay , Eleuthera community. The results were outstanding! Beyond the increased reading levels seen this school year, the improvements in self esteem and motivation have been noticed by parents, teachers and therapists.
The much needed teacher training and student assistance will continue this December 2011 and Spring 2012 and will extend to all three districts of Eleuthera.

Audiologist Kim Scrivin and Speech Therapist Sharon Clarke will be returning to provide evaluations and follow up therapy for EEO students in January 2012.
Many of our EEO students have had hearing loss due to infections or various unattended ear problems. Once these are diagnosed and remedied, their academic performance dramatically improves.
This is one of the many ways EEO is making a big difference in the quality of the children's lives.
